Q.1. Who is Allah?        Q2.How does He look like? Go to the bottom of this page V
--------------------------    ------------------------------------

All people feel the need to worship God and feel secure.
But they differ on HIS Attributes and who HE is.
The need, the fear and hope for God is innate in human nature, they are born with it.
It is the defining and knowing who God is, that has been an issue of debate for many.

Islam tells us Allah is the Only God of the whole Universe.

Allah is the Arabic word for God. This is the way Arabs, Jews, Christians and Muslims call God. Allah is the personal name of God, which He gave to Himself in the Quran. The Quran is the last and final revelation from Allah to mankind.
The name "
Allah " is unique. It also has no feminine or masculine form (unlike 'god' or 'goddess' ). It also has no plural form (unlike 'god' or 'gods'). The name Allah simply means
'"The One and Only True God."

The name Allah was not invented by Arabs.

It has been the name of God since the begining of time. In the Torah we can easily find the name that God gave Himself,  "Elah", or in some cases "Eloh" (Elohim-[im] being a form of respect in the Hebrew language). It was also used in the Aramaic language, which was the language spoken by our beloved Prophet Jesus-Essa alayhes salam.

The most important part about the Islamic worship is that  Muslim worship One God  i.e. Allah, and this simple message of Islam  has remained unchanged since  man first walked on the face on earth.
From Prophet Moses (a s) calling out to his people,
" Hear 'O Israel: The  Lord our God is One" Deuteronomy 6:4( English-KJV)];
to Prophet Jesus (a s) teaching his disciples, " Why does thou callest me good?
There is none good but one, that is, God" [Mathew 19:17; Mark 10:18; Luke 18:19  (English-KJV)];
to the last messenger of monotheism who came with the final revelation from the God proclaiming,
" Your God is One God , there is none who has the right to be worshiped but He,
the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful" [2:163]
.

In Quran, We find that Allah used these words to introduce Himself to Musa/Moses:
" O Musa! Verily I am Allah, the Exaulted in Might, the Wise!,..." [27:09]

Q2. Then they ask who created Allah???
----------------------------------------------------------
This question is inherently false and self contradictory. If we were to say for the sake of argument -that some one created Allah then they would ask who created the creator of the creator? Then who created the creator of the creator of the creator? And so on,...................
This is irrational and impossible.
Quran tells us:
" Say: He is Allah the One and Only;
Allah The Eternal, the Absolute
(The self-sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats or drinks)
He begets not, nor was He begotten; And there is none co-equal or like Him."  [112:1-4]

[Means, the Creator can never be equated with the created!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]

No one created Him. He is the First and the Last. He created everything other than Himself.
This is what makes sense and is logical.
                           Prophet Muhammed (s.a.w.) said:
                                   " People will keep on asking questions until some one will say ,
     ' Allah created the universe but who created Allah?' Whoever encounters that let him say:
                      "AmantuBillah (I believe in Allah.)'"

Q3. Imagining Allah:
(So how does He look like?)
-----------------------------

Quran tells us:
                   " There is nothing whatever like unto Him. He is All-Hearing and All-Seeing. To Him belong the keys to the Heavens and the Earth. He enlarges and restricts provisions to whom He wills. Surely He has knowledge of everything." [ 42:11-12]

There is nothing like unto Him, nothing that is equal or comparable to Him or that can rival Him. He is far above any resemblance to any created being. Whatever crosses the mind of the son of  Adam, with regard to his Lord,   He is greater than that because human being has been given very limited imagination and wisdom and is unable to imagine his Creator.

No creature can encompass Him or can imagine what He looks like. Allah Subhana hu wa ta'ala says:
"...............but they do not encompass it (i.e. what He knows) in knowledge." [20:110]

This basically means that Allah is Unique and unlike His creations,
since '
the Creator' can never be equated with 'the created'. Allah explains the infiniteness of His knowledge as follows:

                   " And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allah would not be exhausted.  Indeed Allah is exalted in might and Wise." [ 31:27]

                     "Allah--there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them and they encompass not a thing of His Knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi  (chair/throne/seat) extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."
[ 2:255]

"He knows you well when He created you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers." (53:32)

In Quran Allah tells us how He is with us at all times:

" And He is with you wherever you may be" [57:4]
" And We are closer to him [man] than his jugular vein." [50:16]

The Muslim is not supposed to try to imagine or picture Allah; rather, he has to believe in the sublime attributes that befit His Might and Majesty in which there is non like unto Him. Part of belief/aqedah of a Muslim is that Allah cannot be seen in this world, as He says:
                 " Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives (all) vision; and He is the Subtle,
    The Acquainted." [6:103]
But the believers will see Him in the Hereafter, in the gathering place where judgment will be passed, and in the Paradise.
The Prophet Muhammed (s.a.w.) was asked,
                      " Did you see your Lord?" He said, " I saw Light.";
                         according to another report: " Light, how could I see Him?" [Muslim]
This is in accordance with what Allah said to Musa/Moses in suarah of al-Araaf,
                       " You cannot see Me" (i.e., in this world).

Nether the prophet Muhammed (s.a.w.) or anyone else has seen Allah with his own two eyes. In the Hereafter, when the people see Him in the place of gathering, they will fall down in prostration before His Might and Majesty. Seeing him in Paradise will be the greatest of all joys that the people of Paradise will experience.

A good Muslim must learn to recognize Allah by the Names and Attributes which He has told us about Him in His Book, and he must not occupy himself with something that is beyond him. He must not try to imagine or picture his Creator; instead he must devote his time in doing what his Lord has commanded him to do, so he can see his Creator in Paradise.
