My name is Chris Caldwell, I am 16, and I was born in raised in South San Francisco. I attend Juniperro Serra High School in San Mateo.
I learned about SAR from Heather Forsythe. The way I saw it, the program was a means to an end. To finish the high school requirement for hours and do it in a way that's a little out of the ordinary and to have experiences most of my peers don't share.
But, since the attacks on the 11th I had a new reason. I had family in the Pentagon that morning. Luckily, they had left about a half hour before the attack, but I didn't hear from them until three days afterward. I felt that there was absolutely nothing I could do, which was true. I also knew that people all across the country feel the same way. This became my desire to help. SAR gives me the knowledge and opportunity so when a family is feeling that loss of loved ones but doesn't know how or why be it on the epic of unimaginable scale of the Twin Towers, or when someone gets a little lost on a trail. |
