| Freshman Season | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 9-7-04 Oxford @ Nipmuc | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My first ever cross country meet was tough. It was a tough course, I didn't feel good at all, and it was nothing other than a fiasco. Doug won this race at the finish. |

| 9-17-04 Oxford @ Southbridge | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The course wasn't marked, Ben and I got lost. Upon further inspection, it was actually an easy course to follow. Nevertheless, we went the wrong way a few times and for 2.8 I got a 25:17. Obviously, getting lost doesn't help your time. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 9-21-04 David Prouty @ Oxford | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Finally, home sweet home. I wouldn't get worn out or lost, plus I had the small crowd on my back. Someone thought it was funny to switch our arrows and then go a shorter way to the finish. But still, I got there before the arrows were turned around, and even though some of the boys on their team cheated, we won 19-46. I nearly caught Ben at the finish, after putting in the final push too late. He beat my by about a foot. My time was 20:54 for 2.9. 7:12 pace. Doug broke our course record, Calista McRae of Prouty set a course record, and Kirsten set an Oxford record for the girls. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 9-24-04 Oxford @ Northbridge | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This was one where I could get away from Ben, and Manny, and run all my own. A simple around the grass, out the parking lot, down the street, small loop to turn around, and back course. I was ahead of Ben the whole race. Kirsten and Jennie came up on me on our way back, and I was glad because I could run with someone. I ran witht hem all the way to the finish. I had trouble at the finish, not knowing what side of the cone to run around. 23:54 for 3 miles. 7:58 pace. |

| 10-1-04 Oxford, Quabog @ Shepherd Hill | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Another course like the Northbridge one, only this time we started on the street, and finished in the fields and on the dirt track. I had a good last half mile in this one, passing 3 runners, and pulling away from them all. 23:47 in the 5k. 7:39 pace. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-5-04 Oxford, Bartlett @ Tantasqua | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This course had about 10 small loops in it to make up the course. I was suprised less than halfway through, Tantasqua's top female runner, Kristen Wood flew by Ben and me. Anyways, it was cold this day... didn't effect my running, but it was COLD. 21:57 for a 2.9 course. 7:34 pace. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-12-04 Oxford, Uxbridge @ Millbury | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I wasn't really happy this week at all. I felt like crap, and performed like crap. 2.6 Miles I ran in 22:10. (8:31.) A stupid course with hills up and down, but thats no excuse for my crappy time. Doug beat Audet in this race by 15 seconds. In order to ease the pain of my suckness, Doug gave me a leaf. One that I still have, perfectly preserved. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-20-04 Auburn, Grafton @ Oxford | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Our last home meet of the season. Bay Path was supposed to show up for this one, but they decided not to for some strange reason.Off the start of the race, everything was normal, Ben was staying with me, then we got to the hill and I sort-of pulled away... then after all the up and downhill segments, we were on our way back on the trail that leads to the school. Ben came back on my tail. He stayed there, and then on one of the puddles, he slipped past me. He stayed right ahead the rest of the woods. When we got out, I knew I'd have to really turn it on. I did, and past him in the parking lot. I had a small lead on him when we got on the track. It got a little bigger around the turn. Once we got there, I thought about it as just being a 200 workout like we do in practice, because thats all it was. I poured it on, and got away from Ben. I snuck up on another team's runner, but he didn't quite feel like letting me by. He pulled away. But still, it was an awesome race. My time was 19:57 for our 2.9 course, a 6:50 pace. My best XC race this season. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-23-04 Wachusett Invitational, Wachusett Regional High School | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Ah, Wachusett. This would be my first experiance at a Big Meet. There were tons of schools here, and they brought tons of fans along with them. We had woken up as early as usual to get to the meet on time. It was a cold day, and we wore an extra shirt under to keep warm. Some nice memories of this meet were Patrick Tripping, Patrick Falling, and Patrick Hitting the ground. The course was 2.4 miles. It had many turns, I thought I was going to the school on 2 occasions, but on both of them, there were more turns. I passed what seemed like 10 people at the final stretch. "Great finish there." was what I heard from my teamates. The time: 17:14 for 2.4 miles. 7:10 pace. |

| 10-28-04 SWCL Championships-"The Farm Course" Tufts University | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The race for the individual championship was between Oxford's Doug Caves and Uxbridge's Josh Audet. Audet had a small lead on Doug the first, second, and third time we saw him. The fourth time we saw him he was behind Doug, as they came down the last stretch of grass. Doug crossed the line and won the SWCL Meet. We took 3rd Place as a team. As for the girls, Tantasqua's Kristen Wood was alone at the finish, followed by Jessica Eidinger of Uxbridge, and Calista McRae of David Prouty. Oxford was led by Kirsten Doldoorian in the 16 spot, followed by Jennie Lareau and Alexa Marcigliano in the 25 and 26 spots. I ran in the 2.6 JV race. I passed Ben halfway through and ran hard to stay in front of him the rest of the race.. |

| It was the last race of the season, I wasn't running, so I wasn't thinking about that much, and it didn't appear that the rest of the team was either. While there, there was a memorable game of suicide in which Sebastian got 12 outs and Ben got pegged in the face by accident. Nice subsequent snowball fight as well. |

| As I look back on this first season of high school running, I will remember the learning, the beginning, the racing against Ben, being a freshman. These 2 months have been great and I'm looking forward ot the rest of my high school running career. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
