Junior Season
4/9/07 vs David Prouty: Win 73-63
1 Mile: 6:14
Time sucks, I didn't think I was going that fast. I haven't raced an outdoor mile in a year so it does take a little to find the right speed again. I didn't feel good before either. Hopefully I will feel better on Wednesday, and be able to run an acceptable time.
4/11/07 at Tantasqua: Loss, 95-41
1600: 5:51
From the start, I felt good. I ran at a good pace which I was able to maintain throughout the race, until lap four. As I moved along through the sections of the track, picking up speed, I felt my body more and more damaged from fatigue. Although I fought through as hard as I could, I could not manage to run under 5:47 which I believed I would do as I was told my time at the bell lap. Last week was a poor week of training, with more running I will defenitly be able to set a new PR.

5:51 is my 3rd best mile ever. My best from indoor was 5:49. It is a very positive sign that I am just two seconds away from breaking that, and just four seconds away from setting a new personal record in the mile, an accomplishment I have coveted since the end of my freshman year. I have had difficulties with injuries throughout high school which have delayed my success. Perhaps, this is the season I can get back to where I left off my freshman year when I took three weeks off due to shin splints. I will break my PR this season.
4/25/07 vs Uxbridge: Loss
1 Mile: 6:09
What a beautiful day for a meet. Cold and rainy. Not the weather I can run a good mile in. My splits were 82, 97, 98, 90. I started off too fast even for a PR. My splits would average 86 if I were to break my PR.

I can run good in the rain in a longer distance race. If I had run in the 2 mile, I probably would have done very well today. However, I will not move up to the 2 mile until I break my PR in the mile. I need to get that out of the way first.
4/28/07 Relay Meet 1600: 6:01
Felt sick, didn't prepare as well as I normally would. However, I didn't run a terrible split considering that. I have three meets next week, none of which I will waste.
4/30/07 vs Grafton: Win, 84-51, vs Bartlett: Win, 83-53
800: 2:45
Very sick, had to drop to the 800 instead of the mile, and did not run well. Hopefull I can get better before our next two meets, I do not want to see them go to waste because I am not feeling well.
5/2/07 at Millbury: Loss
Very sick, worse. Missed school this day.
Mile: 6:04
5/4/07 vs Leicester: Win
Still a little sick. My split dropped 1 second each lap, the opposite of what my ideal race is. However, it is more consistant than the spilts I have been getting.
5/7/07
2 mile: 13:17
The two mile is a very tough race, especially when the person hasn't done that race since his Freshman year. The time is a personal record but not the best I could do. I did slow down gradually throughout the race. If I ran the race again I would have a better feel for it and likely run another time.

I ran the two mile because I knew I would not lower my mile time on this day, so I instead used the race as preparation for the next meet.
5/9/07 at Northbridge: Win
1600: 5:55
It was my second best time of the season but still not a time that I would like to run. My season took a bit of a hit due to having an off week or so due to sickness. Hopefully the training done between this day and the SWCL meet will be enough to get to where I need to be.
5/17/07 SWCL Meet: at Tantasqua
1600: 5:52
"I will break my PR this season."

I had planned on doing this without expecting to be sick for 4 consecutive meets. However, I still tried to accomplish the feat, running 5:55 and 5:52 to close out the season. I know that if I had just 1 more race left, I would defenitely break the 5:47 mark.

I had my father yelling my spilts to me as I ran. The first lap, 83, was 3 seconds fast, so I slowed down the 2nd lap. However, I slowed down too much, to a 94, 8 seconds slow. I went faster, to a 90 on my 3rd, still too slow. I sped up on the final lap, to an 84.

My biggest mistake was slowing down too much on the 2nd lap. I knew I was going too fast, but I slowed down too much. Another mistake I made was conserving too much. I felt great, and from lap 1 I believed that it could be a PR. So, expecting to run under the mark, I conserved. 'Why should I try to run a great time and risk hitting the wall and blowing the PR?' It was good reasoning, but the plan was overused.

If I had; 1. Not slowed down so much on lap two, and 2. Let myself go faster, I would have had the PR. Now, knowing that I can go faster without hitting the wall, I would be able to run under the 5:47. However, I have no more opportunities to do so.

Official timing has me at 5:42 instead of 5:52, however the officials were having some trouble that meet, and it's unlikely my dad messed up on a wristwatch.

I wanted to break my PR because I wanted to get back to where I was my freshman year. Honestly, there is no doubt in my mind that I am currently able to break 5:47. If I had one more race, I am sure I would.

The reason I wanted to run under the mark was to prove to myself that I have caught up to where I left off. Although I did not officially run the PR, I know that I am capable of doing so. In essence, I am back to where I left off.
6000 (3.7): 26:30 (7:07)
6/10/07 Worcester Firefighter's 6K Memorial Road Race
After the close of the outdoor season I immediately began training myself for this race, a 6k which would mark the end of my 06-07 running year. I went out on a positive note, running around what I expected. I shattered my time from last year by 47 seconds. I feel good and I'm looking forward to next year.

I don't want to take any time off because of the good shape I've gotten myself into, but I know that I must take a few weeks off to allow me to run throughout the summer and into the end of the cross-country season. Summer training will begin on the 4th of July with a two mile run.
