| 1600: 6:35 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 4/4/06 vs David Prouty: Win 73-63 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Nobody was sure if we would even run this meet. It was pouring out on my walk to the bus stop in the morning. But when the cancellations were announced at the end of the day, sure enough, the track meet was still on. It had stopped raining by then, but it was COLD. It was probably above 30 degrees, but it was very windy. The athletes were allowed to wear sweatshirts during their races, and the meet was moved along very quickly. I was scheduled to run the mile with Tyson. It's hard to say that the weather didn't affect our running, because Tyson finished slower than 5:30, and he usually runs under 5:15. I was disgusted to see that my time was 6:35, but decided that being the first meet, and the weather freezing, I hadn't run too terrible. The next meet is 4/6 at Bartlett, and I hope to run under 6 minutes. |

| 4/6/06 @ Bartlett: Win 86-50 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1600: 6:16 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In the mile, I ran a 6:16 and finished 2nd, behind Andre. We scored 8-1 in the mile. On the first lap I couldn't hear anyone behind me. I didn't think anyone was there but I didn't want someone to come out of nowhere on the last lap. I turned back and didn't see anyone. Pat told me not to look back. The next lap I went by Pat I asked "Where is he?" and Pat told me that he was far back. I was then able to run easily. I wasn't too proud of the 6:16 but there wasn't much pushing me. More competition will help drop that down. |

| 4/11/06 vs Leicester: Win 105-25 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 800: 2:47 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I'd been feeling sick after a class trip to a rainy, cold New York City on Saturday the 8th. I was still feeling sick and dropped from the mile to the 800. I felt okay throughout and ran an okay race. Cody came out of nowhere and beat me on the final stretch... something that's never happened to me. My time was 2:47, which isn't good at all compared to my normal sub 2:40 times, and those weren't even good runs. I could tell you I ran a bad time because I was feeling sick, but I don't like to use excuses. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1600: 6:16 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 4/13/06 @ Shepherd Hill: Win 70-66 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We knew this was going to be a close meet. An overall great team effort pulled it out for us. Andre and Rob had a wild finish in the 2 mile. The order was Rob-SH-Andre. The Shepherd Hill runner had closed a big gap and it looked as if he might take the race. Rob went back in first, and Andre beat both of them to the finish. We were down 1 point going into the last race, the 4x400 relay. The winner of the relay gets 5 points, the 2nd place team gets 0. Whoever won the relay race would win the meet. Grenier ran well, Travis ran well, and the runners were even as the handoff went to Paris. He built a small lead by the end of his run. When Jeremy got the baton, he took it and ran like a man possesed. Jeremy made a huge gap between himself and the Shepherd Hill runner. The gap wouldn't close at all, and Jeremy brought home the win for us. As for me, in the mile, I ran pretty bad again. I got 6:16 for the 2nd mile race in a row. Things had been going okay until the last lap. I didn't really feel good after lap 1, but I tried staying with the runner in front of me. At the start of the 3rd lap, a Shepherd Hill runner passed me. Right away I thought "Oh no you don't" and went back in front of him. I tried putting a gap but I didn't want to use too much energy. Whatever space I did put between us was useless. He passed me once again on the 4th lap, and I had nothing left. he finished about 60 meters in front of me. |

| 4/27/06 vs Auburn: Win 103-33 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1600: 6:06 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Late in the indoor season, Coach pulled the outdoor team together for a meeting to tell us about something the Auburn coach said to him regarding Auburn's top hurdler. It's the normal deal for coaches to ask each other to nominate their runners for All-Stars. When Auburn's coach asked our coach to nominate one of their runners, our coach said "He did good today, didn't he?" The Auburn coach's response was "Yeah, he blew your guys away." Our team wasn't going to take that. Coach wasn't either. He didn't hold back from running up the score at all. He put us where we wanted us, we gave him what he wanted, and he was able to have a fun talk with the Auburn coach at the end of the meet. I finally ran a time that I was content with. I know the time isn't where I want it to be but I'm happy about the way I ran. I feel like I can start picking up the pace now, and my time should begin dropping quickly. |

| 4/29/06 Relay Meet | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I was the backup for the 800 in the sprint medley, but Paris felt fine and I wasn't needed. He ran a 2:14. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1600: 6:06 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5/4/06 vs Millbury: Win 85-51 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I didn't feel good during my race and ran a 6:06 again, which I'm not happy about at all. Dan ran a 5:29 though. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5/11/06 vs Northbridge: Win 96-40, vs Uxbridge: Win 73-63 | 1600: 5:54 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Everything went right today. I finally broke 6 minutes for the year, and I ran my 3rd best time in the mile ever. I felt good during the race, and my shins didn't hurt at all after the race, which is good. As for 1st place in SWCL-East being on the line... The team pulled it out. We were leading by 5 going into the 4x400, which means we would either win or tie. There was never any doubt as to which we would do. Grenier started the race off with a good gap. After Ben and Schuler, Jeremy was given about a 50 meter lead to defend. He took care of his business and we beat Uxbridge. |

| Mile: 5:56 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5/18/06 SWCL Meet: 3rd Place Finish | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I ran a 5:56 for the mile, which comes out to be a 5:54 1600 (1 mile=1609). So running the same time 2 meets in a row, then dropping it, is a trend I'm still going by. Shepherd Hill won the meet, Tantasqua came in 2nd. We finished 3rd behind 2 regional high schools. We won the 4x400 thanks to Jeremy beating Shepherd Hill as he turned onto the last stretch. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5/20/06 Districts: 6th Place Finish | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5/23/06 vs Tantasqua Loss 84-52 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1600: 6:02 | 800: 2:46 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I had a bad day. My legs had been feeling sore and it showed in the meet. I beat a Tantasqua runner in the mile by passing him on lap 3 at the front straightaway and keeping the lead. I tried passing him on lap 2 at the same spot but he didn't let my go by. I knew that he had struggled to keep the lead then, so I was expecting to pass him the next lap. In the 800 I raced the same runner. I passed him the first lap and built a 20 meter lead going into the back straightaway of the 2nd lap. I had gone hard the first lap, and I was starting to feel the fatigue from the mile and having the sore legs. The wind was terrible on the straightaway. I was struggling the entire straightaway. He had caught up and passed me as we made our way down the final stretch. He was ahead by about 10 meters when I started my kick. He had started his too. I started catching up to him with about 30 to go. I was really closing the gap with 20 left, then 10. But I was too late. I pushed to beat him but I ran out of track. I finished about a half step after him. All I needed was 3 more meters and I would have beat him. |

| 5/25/06 (at Northbridge) vs Grafton: Win 85-51 | 1600: 6:16 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 9-1 (5-0) SWCL-East Champs | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The expectations of the Oxford Outdoor Track team were low at the start of the season. However, we pulled it together as a team and gave Coach Shattuck a SWCL-East Championship to end his coaching career. He said that we were the favorite team he coached since he started in 1972. It's sad to see him go, but things change and we all must move on sometime. There will be another person guiding us next year. We're going to work just as hard for him, but we'll never forget all the help that Coach Shattuck has given us. I didn't run good again, and that's pretty much how my sophomore year went after cross country season. My average mile time this season was 6:09. Last year it was 5:56, and that's only with 4 races. I had an injury that put me out the entire indoor season, and I had to learn a new type of running. I'll be looking forward to training in the summer and I hope to be a key part of the cross country and track teams. |

| I might have started off too fast, but I still ran a pretty good time. It was good warm weather, but a strong wind for about a half mile towards the end slowed me down. I had a good kick and passed 11 within the last 50 meters. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
