First Meet-4/5/05 @ Northbridge
My warmup Jave tosses are great, then my 3 official attempts are absoloutly terrible- my best was 50' . The new shoes (Nike Zoom Waffle XC w/spike) are good. I ran the mile. It's a pretty sweet race. The first two laps you're thinking "crap this is long." Then the last two its "wow this is short." I got 6:06, my best mile time, but I will beat that on thursday's home meet. Now I have a feel for the mile, plus I'll be at home sweet home. We won the meet...
4/7/05 vs Millbury
I had people all around the track cheering for me, which carried me through the race. (Thanks everybody.) I finished in 5:53 and I know I can go faster. Next meet I'll try to get somewhere around 5:40.
4/14/05 vs Auburn
5:58 for the mile.

Had to help measure field events and got kinda sick, didn't have any time to prepare.
4/19/05 vs Blackstone-Millville
Time was 5:47. Last time I run for 3 weeks, the doctor says to take time off for the shin splints.
5/12/05 vs Uxbridge
Was supposed to be my first meet back since the injury, but they STILL hurt. This was an important meet. It came down to the 4x400 relay. Whoever won this race would be the winner of the meet. We got the early lead. Jeremy extended it. The 3rd guy from Uxbridges went ahead of Andre, but Andre got back with him, and stuck with him. Then it was off to Dennis, he gave it all he had, just like everyone else in the meet, but came up a 5 yards short. SWCL Championships are next Thursday, it's gonna be one heck of a contest.
5/14/05 Districts @ Shrewsbury
A lot of people did well today. LT won the 200, Shep took 110 hurdles, Doug broke a record. It was the 400, and the record was 50.30. Doug's qualifying time was 50.0. He blew away the competition and the only thing left to annihilate was the record. We cheered on our Captain and we saw he cross the line as the clock turned from 49 to 50. We knew he had the record. The official time was 50.12, and he broke a record that had been standing for 28 years.
5/16/05 vs Leicester
Finally, I get to run. So I run in the 800 (half mile.) First lap things were looking good. Legs a little sore from the time off. Second lap I felt out of shape and tired... Finished in 2:40. Pretty bad but its what I expected. I'm gonna try to run in SWCL.
5/19/05 SWCL Championships
As I tried to focus on my 800, I was unable to observe much... But from what I could see, I knew things were going well. Bill Hasset won the shot put, and Keith Scott scored 2 points in it. Doug won the triple jump, Ray Shepard scored 6 in it. Doug, Shep, and Lawrence Scott scored 16 points combined in the long jump. Doug won the 100, LT got 2nd. LT won the 200, Shep won hurdles, We won the 4x100. Dennis Halsdorff and Derrick Bennett got us 10 points in the 300 hurdles.

In the 800, I highly disappointed myself. Not because of my 2:36, but because I know I didn't give it my all. I came to the excuse being "No pressure, no drive." The reason I did good at Indoor's 4x800 was because it was a relay. If I did bad, the team did bad. Plus, with a smaller track there were more chances for Coach to yell at me to go faster. But... I suppose I must be happy that I was able to run. But even with that, I wish I had run better.

When the 400 came around, the SWCL career of one of the greatest athletes to ever put on an Oxford uniform would be over in 49.34 seconds. He's the reason I've improved so much since Cross Country. He's the reason I try so hard, it's because I want to be just like him. He's the reason I want to be great... He's my hero, and his name is Doug Caves.

Before the 4x400 relay, the score was us in front of Tantasqua, 114-100. Which means no matter what the outcome of that event was, we won the meet. And for the 2nd consecutive year, a first place trophy was going to be added to the display case thanks to the Oxford High Outdoor Track Team.

We could not have gotten this far without the help of 1 man. He's one heck of a guy and a tremendous help to us all. On behalf of all the athletes who have ever been able to run for him, I'd like to say thanks for everything, Coach Shattuck.

I WILL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR, HAVE A GREAT OFFSEASON EVERYONE!
