(Or, things your mama didn't tell you)
There are some basic skills that everyone (regardless of race and
class) needs to work on:
Sense Heading
Swimming
Offense
One-hand Slash or Blunt
Defense
Dodge
Forage (Iksar of all classes, Wood Elves of all classes, Druids,
and Rangers)
Track (Druids, Bards, and Rangers)
Sense Heading is invaluable even if you also run by LOC or
Location. Push it every time it pops,
whether running, fighting, medding, making arrows, or sitting on your fanny for
other reasons.
Swimming is pretty necessary; it is no fun to drown. When it's safe to travel that way, swim
along shorelines to increase the skill.
Melee skills are extremely important for even non-Melee classes
for a variety of reasons. First of all
you may be TOTALLY out of mana (OOM) and for some reason (say, you're rooted)
you can't run. Offense, Dodge, and
Defense come as you fight; but your weapon skill has to be worked. There is an added reason for having good
melee skills; if your Defense is high, and if you can Dodge well, you will be
able to "regain your concentration and continue casting" if you are
interrupted, and you may be able to avoid having your casting interrupted in
the first place.
Forage keeps you fed; all Wood Elves and Iksar can Forage; all
Bards, Druids, and Rangers can Forage at Level Five. Stand up and push it every time it pops.
Tracking is invaluable for finding group members and prey, and it
can tell you how close you are to something you want to avoid. All Rangers, Bards, and Druids can Track
either by race or by class. As with
Sense Heading, push it every time it pops, unless you are actually fighting.

Hotkeys can be created or altered by clicking
"Options/Keyboard" and then by messing around with them. Be VERY
careful how you change hotkeys; I can't tell you how many newbies I've watched
die because they neglected to alter the auto-attack button, or because they
hailed the wrong critter at the wrong time.

Hotbuttons are the grey-stone buttons on the lower left of your screen. If you
use "Newbie Screen" then you have 10 pages of 6 Hotbuttons. If you use "Full Screen" then you
have 10 pages of 10 Hotbuttons. To
switch between pages of Hotbuttons, you type "Shift + X" where X is
page 1 through 10 of your button racks.
To use a Hotbutton, you can click it with the mouse OR you can type 1
through 0 with keyboard numbers. (NOT
number-pad numbers!)
To make a Hotbutton:
In Newbie Screen, or with "Action" screen turned on in the NUI, click "Socials".
Find an empty grey-stone button, and click-hold until a blue-stone text box appears.
Name the button; for instance "BODY".
In the first line of the blue-stone box, type the action you want the button to do; for instance "/corpse" for your Body button.
Click DONE or ACCEPT at the bottom of the blue-stone box.
Click-hold your finished button to attach it to the cursor, switch to your usual screen view, and drop the new button where you want it in your Hotbutton pages.
To make a Hotbutton for Multiple Actions:
You can make one button to do several things; for instance a Warrior may want to Kick, Taunt, and Bash all in one step.
In Newbie Screen, or with "Action" screen turned on in the NUI, click "Socials".
Find an empty grey-stone button, and click-hold until a stone text box appears.
Name the button.

When it sticks to your mouse-pointer, drag it to where you want it in your Hotbutton pages.
To make a Hotbutton for
Right-Click-Effect Items:
Open your Inventory.
Make sure the special item is equipped; for instance Elder Spiritist Vambraces, which cast a low-level Druid Damage-over-Time spell with a right click, must be in the "arms" slot.
Click-hold the inventory square where the item is until it sticks to your mouse cursor.
Drag the new button and drop it to where you want it on your Hotbutton pages.
To make a Click-Link to Show the Stats
for an Item
Right-click the item as usual to bring up the information window. Move the mouse pointer over the picture icon in the info window, then left-click-hold until a coloured link appears in your typing line. Hold shift + left arrow to send the typing cursor to the beginning of the line, then type "/gu" or "/say" or whatever text command applies, and then hit Enter to send the link.
To make a Healer's Hotbutton
Find an empty "Socials" grey-stone button and click-hold it to make the text box appear.
On the first line, type "/g Complete Heal on %t" (or Chloroblast, or Divine Light, or whatever healing spell applies.)
On the second line, type "/cast <number>" where <number> is the healing spell that matches what you want to cast.
On the third line, type "/# Complete Heal on %t" where # is the channel number that your Guild's healers use to communicate.
On the fourth line type "/rs Complete Heal on %t" so that you also inform the raid of who your target is and what heal you are casting.
Click DONE or ACCEPT, and then click-hold the new button until it sticks to your cursor, and drop it where you want it in your Hotbutton pages.
COMMUNICATIONS
There are a lot of ways to communicate in EverQuest.
AUCTION type "/auc" before you type what you want to buy or sell.
CHANNELS these are separate communications webs, that can be used to talk to several people in different zones, Guilds, and groups. To create a Channel, you type "/join<NAME> where <NAME> is the title of the channel you're creating. Inform the others you want in your channel of what you've named it, and have them also type "/join<NAME>". From then onward, you type "/#" where # is the number of the channel usually it will be 1; people are rarely on more than one channel at a time.

Galathners Guide to Selling in the
Bazaar on Luclin
The 10 Step Method
I think the best way to
start is to create a new character to use only in the Bazaar, as you will need
the full carrying capacity of that character.
1. Give the new
character some cash ( about 25 plat should be enough ).
2. Buy 5 regular 8
slot backpacks.
3. Fill one with food
and water.
4. Fill the other 4
with the items you want to sell.
5. Proceed to the
Bazaar.
6. Go to a vendor and
buy trader bags (you can only sell the first 60 items in your inventory ).
7. Now you will need
to type /Bazaar and then do a search on there for each item you are
selling, and then set your price accordingly ( I usually set my price 1 plat
below the lowest for-sale price that I see).
8. To set your price
you will need to left click on the item in your trader window, then click on
the plat box at the bottom ( same for gold, silver, and copper if needed ) type
in your price, click accept, and then MAKE
SURE you click on set price, otherwise you will lose the price you set and
it will be selling for 0 ( zero ) plat.
9. After you have set
the prices for everything you are selling click " begin trader ".
10. I also
occasionally do a search on the Bazaar window to check that my prices are still
the lowest. If not then I usually set mine down to 1 plat lower than the lowest
again, but not if I think that price would be to low, and sometimes I will go
buy that item from whoever is selling it and resell at my price.
