What's In The Words?
.
What is in the words of a poem?
That sometimes makes it special
Is it hidden within the words?
Or is it just simply superficial
.
Is it by chance what is said?
Or could it be what is meant?
And does it really even matter?
If any kind of message is sent
.
When you read a poem
Does it have any meaning?
And does what is said in it
Ignite any special feeling?
.
It is so very sad to think
That there are some of us
That simply skim the words
And know not of our lose
.
Then there are a number of others
Who some how take away much more
For they've read between the lines
And of what they've read they're sure
.
And then there of course are those
Who undoubtedly know a work of art
For the words are what their worth
And they simply take them to heart
.
And finally there are those
Who try to find some meaning
Of that which has been written
And are immersed in the feeling
.
It is only for you to say
Which of these are really real
But first you must ask yourself
How it is you really feel
.
By asking what's in the words
If there's anything at all
Of something very special
Can they make you recall?
.
Are they able to make you stop
And for just a short while wonder
What you could've done different
Yesterday or even way back yonder
.
Can they make you just sit back
And simply let your mind reflect
On things that till that moment
You've forced yourself to neglect
.
Do they even have the power?
To make you stop and ponder
About what could have been
Or what was once torn asunder
.
Do they make you stop and think?
About things you've said or done
| Or maybe even better yet
