21st June 2004

Santiago from Blindness has made a remix of Dobranoc, a song from Dominique A's new album. The remix has won the Dobranoc remix competition organised by Dominique A's website www.dominiquea.com and his label LABELS, along with 3 other remixes made by musicians all over the world. The 4 remixes will be included in a limited edition Maxi-single to be released in September 2004.

Santiago is very happy about this, being a massive Dominique A fan. The remix was recorded one month ago in London, and features the original voice-track from Dominique A together with a piano, violins and pocket sax arrangement played and composed by Santiago. The arrangement was inspired by Arvo Part and Dominique's A performance of the (then unreleased) Dobranoc at the Francofolies in Berlin.

To listen to the remix and read Santi's explanation of it go to http://www.dominiquea.com

In other Blindness news, while the band keep working on the music, the shooting of the video for a song off the next CD will take place in three weeks in Belgium. The director will be Iván Castell.

23rd November 2003

We're back!. This summer, the "En Construcci󮦣034; concert at the AzcᲡte library in Le󮬠Spain was a success. The venue was filled to more than capacity.

The stage was lit by a single spotlight that contributed to the intimate atmosphere and a slide projector with different images for each song.

The setlist included songs from Senne, as well as three new songs (Antibiotics, How Far to go to get here? and Darkness) and two instrumental settings for a poem by the Leó® °oet Antonio Gamoneda (who was in the audience) and "Insomnio" by Dá¡so Alonso. These last two pieces were written specifically for the concert and are as yet unrecorded.

An unplanned improvised version of the Gershwin standard "Summertime" was played as an encore. The concert was a great success, and we look forward to organising more in the future.

Meanwhile, apart from working on our new CD, we may participate in the soundtrack of the "European Group Cut Project", an exciting film project with involvement from Ivan Castell. To find out more about the project and how you can take part in it, please go to their official website http://www.europeangroupcut.tk

An excerpt from Santi and Laura Calvo's cover version of Dominique A's La valse boite was featured on 1-hour the documentary "Dix Ans de A" last night. It was preceded by Dominique saying it was a very good cover of the song.

The documentary, directed by Xavier Ess and Jean-Marc Panis was a 1-hour documentary including live excerpts from performance by Dominique and interviews with collaborators like Yann Tiersen and Sacha Toorop.

More info on the documentary here including show times on RTBF Satellite (next Friday) and RTBF's "La deux" (next Thursday morning).

Comment Certains Vivent offers the cover as a download in two different versions. It also includes a short comment by me, Santi, on the recording of "La valse boite".

12th February 2003

Santi and Laura Calvo's cover version of Dominique A's La valse boite has enjoyed a certain degree of success over the last few weeks. The webmasters of his official website have confirmed that Dominique really liked the cover. The cover is now likely to feature on a documentary on Dominique for Belgian national TV (RTBF). More info when we get it...

Finally in the last few weeks both Canclaux (a french cultural blog) and Popnews (a music webzine) have incorporated references to our musical activities.

24th January 2003

Recording on the new Blindness record continues. Recording sessions have been held since Christmas in Armunia, Madrid and Churchill College, Cambridge. The sessions have featured collaborations from other musicians and a range of unusual acoustic instruments, including viola, grand piano and harpsichord. We are very happy with the results so far, we'll see where this take us...

29th November 2002

Santiago from Blindness and his sister Laura have recorded a cover version of Dominique A's "La valse Boite". A copy of the cover has been given to Dominique A himself along with other fan covers by the webmasters of Comment Certains Vivent, the official Dominique A website. You can listen to the cover here

Non bis in Idem, including Santiago from Blindness played a concert at the VUB's KultuurKaffe in Brussels on the 9th of November. The 10-song set was warmly received by the audience. Non Bis will re-enter the studio shortly to finish recording their second demo.

31st July 2002

Blindness record finally underway. We have agreed a schedule for recording a new CD, with November 2002 as a tentative deadline. Guillermo L󰥺 will feature as primary collaborator and co-producer. The recordings will take place in four different home-studios in three different countries. The aim is for different members to work on different versions and visions of the same songs. The results will then be contrasted, accepted, mixed with other versions or even discarded. After Senne, we decided we wanted to write songs collectively. As we all live in different countries, we could only do this whenever different band members could be in the same town, meet for some hours and improvise together. From about three or four of these chaotic meetings we have distilled 10 new songs which will probably form the bulk of the record. The new modular recording strategy is similar to our song-writing sessions for this record in that it is an attempt to make a creative use of our limitations (in this case geographical distance). So this is the plan. We don’t know how will it evolve or where it will take us, but we know we are on our way… Sacr

6th May 2002

Santi and Guillermo will meet this summer in Leó® ¦or 2-3 weeks of recording. The idea is to look at new arrangements of the songs in Architecture made by Guillermo and hopefully to record string arrangements

Instead of the planned concert, Non Bis in Idem (including Santi Calvo) went into S2Record Studios to record 3 songs: Tired, Hey dude and A few Kms.

Ivá® Castell, director of LEA, is currently preparing a new and ambitious project after his D7 script was selected for development at the Taller de Cine de Reus, organised by Spanish Director Bigas Luna. Blindness will probably be involved in the soundtrack.

21st April 2002

After playing the 27th of March at the old Phillips Factory in Anderlecht, NON BIS IN IDEM are planning a concert in Brussels this June. The line-up will include Santi Calvo, who will travel from London for the event. Tickets will be on sale soon, and each ticket-holder will receive a copy of NON BIS's demo "Vodka for the weekend"

Meanwhile the never-ending recording of the new Blindness record continues. Actually, the tracklisting has been finalised, but there's still a lot of work to do,as each of the band members is in a different country right now...

6th February 2002

New audio page with mp3 audio of music recorded by Blindness for the D7 project and three songs from "The Real World" by Fifteen Minus One.

The demos recorded by Non Bis in Idem at S2record studio in Brussels have been finally been mixed.

6th January 2002

The recording of the follow-up to Senne (2001) continues. Pepe was in Brussels recently and recorded some backing vocals, bass and mandolin. Guillermo Lopez has also made several melodica and guitar contributions to many of the songs from Leon.

Santi Calvo has left Non Bis in Idem. The departure is caused by the relocation of Santi to London. Santi Calvo joined Non Bis In Idem in November 2000, as keyboard player, but he soon expanded to playing melodica, guitar and singing backing vocals. Highlights of his time with the band include a short set at the Klepto Bar in Brussels on Thursday the 8th of November, supporting Brussels band Madeleine Bertier, and a 4-track demo recorded at S2record Studios, which is currently being mixed and should be available soon. Both parties have expressed their hope of working together again in the future.

Sergio and Santi are recording music for Ivá® Castell's new short film project "D7". The pieces are mostly instrumental and several of them have been developed taking as departure point the Blindness song "Happiness" from Senne (2000).

So when's that new Blindness Record coming then???

Pre-production and recording of the follow-up to Senne has already begun. Santi Calvo has been re-arranging several new songs (Antibiotics, downtown, How far, Sunset and more...) with Guillermo L󰥺 this summer. It is not known yet when the definitive recording will start, it will depend on the availability of the different members. A demo CD will soon be circulated amongst Blindness & collaborators as a preliminary step to the recording.
