Eligibility Requirements

 

Persons interested in applying to the City of Santa Clara’s Volunteer Reserve Firefighter program must meet the following minimum requirements:

 

  1. City of Santa Clara residency
  2. Valid California driver’s license and valid vehicle insurance
  3. Age between 18 and 55 years

 

 

Selection Process

 

Testing for volunteer firefighters generally occurs on a bi-annual basis.  At this time, qualified applicants are invited to participate in the reserve division selection process which consists of the following components:

 

  1. Physical agility exam
  2. Oral board interview
  3. Background exam

 

Candidates who successfully complete the selection process are put through a reserve fire academy and appointed to probationary status. 

 

 

Activity Requirements

 

To maintain status as a volunteer reserve firefighter, all members are required to meet the following minimum activity requirements:

 

  1. Attend an average minimum of two drills and two alarms (calls) a month
  2. Attend monthly company meetings
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in all required skills on an annual basis
