| SANLAKAS-YOUTH UP DILIMAN is the first youth chapter of Sanlakas, a multi-sectoral national organization established in 1994 to protect and advance the rights and welfare of the Philippine masses through their involvement in the mass movement. It was founded on February 1997 and was organized as a university-based organization in the first semester of the schoolyear 97-98. SINCE THEN IT HAS INVOLVED in various campaigns that have sought to protect marginalized sectors from government policies detrimental to their interests. SANLAKAS HAS DISTINGUISHED itself through the use of different venues to advance its advocacy - from the parliament of the streets to the halls of Congress. Sanlakas continues to use creative means to popularize its struggles - not limiting itself to the traditional methods that have alienated a vast majority of Filipinos from the mass movement. BECAUSE IT IS A MULI-SECTORAL organization, Sanlakas tackles different issues and the different aspects of the issues involved require it to be responsive to the needs of the particular sector invloved. HENCE THE EXISTENCE of Sanlakas Youth - the Sanlakas youth arm tasked to address the issues facing the youth. |
