Ultimately it depends on the group and it's preferred methods. Some prefer that you have all of your own gear. Others prefer you use the team equipment. We are not going to tell you what you need to buy, but we will say what all SJP members are expected to have before they are out of "trainee" status. * a camera, digital or 35mm. Film, development, and accessories are also your responsibilities. * an audio recorder, analog or digital. If it is analog, you also need an external microphone and fresh cassettes (no recycling). * a flashlight with a red or blue filter. * notebook, pens and pencils. * a watch, one with actual back-lighting, not that glow-in-the-dark stuff * don't forget to bring batteries!!! * audio analysis software, such as WavePad or Audacity * photo analysis software, such as Photoshop That's it. We have the cables and interfaces needed to transfer data to the PC's and will provide more specialized equipment if needed. If you really want to expand that list, go ahead, but keep your wits about you and don't go nuts. Don't sell your kidneys as a fundraiser for that Super-Ecto-Spectrono-Meter. and make sure you read the [EQUIPMENT PAGES] closely. This list is primarily for ethereological research. The equipment for other sub-fields tends to be rather specialized and expensive, or comes from common household items. Cryptozoology often requires advanced photographic equipment, and you'll need some very durable clothing that you don't mind getting ruined. Ufology often requires an evidence collection kit worthy of a police detective. Metaphysics depends more on method and quality control than equipment, so it takes more attention to detail than to gadgetry.
