This is one of the most famous works of Escher: DRAWING HANDS. It is a lithograph, made in 1948. Its original size is 28.5 x 34 cm. A piece of paper pinned on a noticeboard. The right hand is drawing a shirt cuff from which the left hand is emerging and the left hand is drawing the right shirt cuff. It is like a continuous process.
This may not be the most famous work of Escher, but it certainly is one of my favourites. HIGH AND LOW, a lithograph made in 1947. Its original dimensions are 50.5 x 20.5 cm. It looks simple and quite ordinary at first sight, but if you look at it more carefully, you notice that the same image has been presented twice in this drawing. The upper part of the picture is the view you would see if you looked at the woman at the window from a higher floor. The lower part is the view you would see if you looked at her from the ground floor. There is nothing else left for us but to say "Wow, what a job!" :)
Stop looking for a trick, because this is one of the most comprehensible works of Escher. PUDDLE is a woodcut printed from 3 blocks in 1952 and its original size is 24 x 32 cm. A path among trees, reflection of the moon in the puddle, wheel prints of cars and bicycles and some footprints. It makes you want to walk on that path...
