My Great Grandfather Joel Bradford Ramsey was born April 27, 1849 to William and Nancy Anne (Fry) Ramsey, at Guntersville, Alabama. Marshall County. The Ramsey families all grew up in the Guntersville area, where, Joel Bradford fell in love and married Mary Jane Leeman and started his family. Joel Bradford along with his father William were awarded land grants, which they farmed. I found Joel Bradford and Mary Jane "Leeman"Ramsey on the 1880 Morgan County census with four children: 1. William J., 9 years of age 2. James R., 6 years of age 3. Nancy, 3 years of age 4. John Thomas, 1 year of age
Joel B. and Mary Jane Ramsey started their westward move maybe to Leon Oklahoma, Love County and certainly later to Springtown, Texas Parker County. I found the family on the 1900 census, living with them were 1. John F. age 21 2. Senie P. age 17 3. Mary F. "Mollie" age 14 It is of great interest that living near was Matthew L. and his 4th wife Sarah (Alexander) Ward who was previously married to Chevin Spry. Matthew and Sarah had living with them several of Matthew's children, also listed as stepson was Wesley Tabors; son of Amanda (Scroggins) Tabor who had been Matthew's 3rd wife, Also listed as stepchildren were 3 of Sarah's children Walter, Arza, and Thomas J. Spry. There soon would be 2 weddings between the Ramsey family and the Tabor/Spry family. The handsome Thomas J. Spry and Sena Permila were married and not to be out done Wesley Tabors married the youngest of Joel B. and Mary J. Ramsey's daughters , Mary Frances known as "Mollie" There was still moving to be done, Joel and Mary Jane decided to re-locate to Snyder, Texas where they spent the rest of their lives, both are buried there. |
