My father Clyde Dewey Lee born Jan 15, 1898, the youngest of Samuel and Martha (MCKay) Lee's nine children. Samuel Lee was Martha's second husband, she was first married to John Brown in Indiana. There may have been three sons from Martha and John Brown's first marriage, I am sure there was one named Tom Brown, born in 1875 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Shortly after the birth of Tom Brown, Martha moved to Mississippi, and married Samuel Lee. Samuel and Martha Lee and all nine of their children, including my father Clyde D Lee were on the 1900 census records in Blythe and Ingomar Township, Mississippi Union County. 1. Mary O. Lee born February 1878, 22 years of age and single 2. Pearl N. Lee born March 1880, 20 years of age 3. Rubie D. Lee born August 1882, 17 years of age (The census taker spelled her name Rubie , her family spelled it Ruby) 4. James G. Lee born August 1884, 15 years of age (He was known as Guy) 5. Kate O. Lee born October 1887, 12 years of age (The census taker spelled her name Tate O. Lee) 6. William J. Lee born May 1889, 11 years of age (He was known as Joe) 7. Samuel M. Lee born June 1892, 8 years of age (He was known as Mack) 8. Robert A. Lee born March 1895, 5 years of age (He was known as Rob) 9. Clyde Dewey Lee (My Father) born January 15, 1898, 2 years of age. (My Father believed he was born in 1900, after finding him on the census It proved him to be 2 years older.) Soon after the 1900 census Martha moved Joe, Mack, Rob, Ruby, and Clyde, along with Tom Brown, her son from the previous marriage to Thackersville, Oklahoma Love County. My father Clyde D. Lee grew up in the Gainesville, Marrieta, Thackersville Oklahoma area. As a young man he lived in Oklahoma City Oklahoma, where he worked as a barber before moving to Texas |
