Sandy's favourite sports

Badminton

This is one of my few favourite sports. I started learning and playing it when I was still a primary school student. I always went to the playing ground near my grandma's house to play badminton with my elder brothers (not sure if I was affected by them!). Every time in the P.E. lessons when we were allowed to play any kind of sports, I'd choose badminton without hesitation. Maybe it is because this is the only sports which I'm confident in playing well, as I'm not good at any other kind of sports. So, next time when you ask me to suggest any sports activities, you know what my answer will be! :)

Cycling

Like badminton, this is a sports activity where I can find my confidence. When I was around nine years old, my mother who worked as a part-time maid got a four-wheel bicycle from her employer. My elder brother and I always competed for it. It was not difficult to learn to ride the bicycle since it had four wheels. But for a two-wheel bicycle, I'd say, "No way!" One day we went to the nearby playing ground and I got to learn to ride a two-wheel bicycle once I tried to do so. It just took me a second only to learn to ride a two-wheel bicycle!

Injuries

I am not a sporty person and I always got hurt in the P.E. lessons in my schooldays.

Example 1:

At primary 6, I hurt my right hand when I was jumping over the pommelled horse during the P.E. lesson. I couldn't write and eat with my right hand for a few weeks and luckily(?) I recovered before the start of the final exam. But the effect of my injury was more than this. I had performed very well in jumping over the pommelled horse and I enjoyed it before the incident. But since then, I'm afraid to do it. That's why I always got low marks in this item in the exam.

Example 2:

It's at Form 3. This time it came to my knee (right or left? I don't remember). I was practising hurdling during the P.E. lesson. While I just successfully jumped over the fence, I hurt my knee by reaching the ground on it. There was a large wound on my knee and some blood came out from it. I still went to school as usual but walked much slowly. It took me a few weeks to recover.

So, you may not find it difficult to understand why I'm afraid to jump over the pommelled horse or fence.
