Music

What is music? A kind of art? Some people say it's something without which they cannot live (exaggerated?); it's a necessity. Some say it's good to hear music when a woman is pregnant. Some say it can help relieve tension. Some say everyone can sing. Some say only some people have gifts for music... So, what would you say about it?

Musical instruments

I guess many of people may learn to play at least one kind of musical instrument when they are just a little child, whether be forced or voluntary to do so. Those who have academic achievements are often found to be good at playing musical instruments like piano as well. It seems to be a deep-rooted belief that an outstanding or perfect child should be good at musical instruments.(maybe they're smart enough to do many things at a time without any difficulties) Instruments like piano are also luxuries to me because many of them cost so much money. Not every family can afford it. Playing a musical instrument is also a luxury to children in the countries like Hong Kong where most of their time is spent on their studies.

I'm a lucky person who had a chance to learn a bit about some musical instruments. I learnt recorder and pianica at primary school. They were just for fun and I don't think I were very good at any one of them. My mom asked me if I wanted to learn to play piano. I did want to but I said no to her. I was afraid that I might put any further financial burden on my family if I said yes. I took an elementary course in guitar at secondary schooldays. It is a musical instrument that many teenagers like to play. Don't you notice that in many school singing contests a boy is playingguitar while his partner is singing a folk song? I didn't take any more advanced course later. Maybe I'm a person who has no patience in learning something for a long time or I'm not talented in music!
