This is looking down the street right off of Istiklal at Pandora Books - one of the places where you can find English-language books (new) in Istanbul. I spent a lot of time here. There is great atmosphere in this neighbourhood. This is a typical summer day. I love hanging out in Taksim. |

Again, a typical summer day, likely early, in Taksim. This is moderately crowded - it gets much worse. You'll be walking shoulder-to-shoulder at the peak periods, but again, Taksim is worth it! Though, I'm not too impressed with the addition of Dunkin'Donuts (to the right of the picture) to Istiklal. It's somewhat like adding a Velvet Clown with sad eyes to the Louvre. But, it makes homesick tourists all happy and nostalgic. There is a Starbucks there as well. If they were going to add anything, why couldnt' it have been one single lonely Tim Horton's? |

A shot of typical Taksim fare along Istiklal. There places are so good! And they are marketed so well, right in the window where you can't help but to see it there, staring back at you crying eat me! eat me!
I have been in this particular establishment, near the top of Istiklal opposite Burger King. Worthwhile. Not too expensive. |

I have also been in here. In fact, I sat in the middle to the far right of the picture, just behing the two men there. Good food. The one thing that bugged me, though, was that it was completely smoking. And the couple at the table immediately beside mine (you can see how close the tables are) lit up just as I received my food. I should have asked to move. Had I been with my husband and son, he definately would have moved, but not before letting the smokers know what he thought of them. Thus it was good I was alone! |
