Efes Vacation
Efes - if you come here you will likely have either stopped by or are staying in Selcuk.  Selcuk did not win me over at first - one word - touts.  But after a few days wandering the streets, hiking past the peach orchards with peaches the size of softballs, and hanging out at St. John's, Selcuk eventually warmed my cockles.  I stayed at the Australian/New Zealand guest house, which had an awesome view.  I walked all the way to Efes and back, thank you very much, as I was getting tired of cab drivers fleecing me.
You simply cannot avoid the tourists here, unless you get here early.  This is one of the Turkish Tourist mainstays, especially considering its vicinity to Kusadasi, aka, Cruise Central.  Busloads of tourists are deposited here daily, hence the preponderance of Selcuk touts.  The ruins, as you can see, are pretty phenomenal - you can actually walk down the same roads that the Romans did, see the same buildings, and get a real feeling for the time.
The ampitheatre at Efes.  It's a long way up.
View of the library at Efes.  Try taking a picture here that does not include another tourist taking a picture.  Can't be done.
