| There was recently a debate on Dave's ESL cafe over the monopoly of a certain language school franchise. British Side was presented as an example of how a successful school could be run. This is what I have figured out, from Dave's ESL cafe, about British Side: * It was formerly run by the British Council * It was bought by four or so former teachers * It is run the same way, using similar styles and teaching materials as the British Council * Teachers are making about 30-35 YTL per teaching hour and average 14 hours per week * There is a great deal of teacher and student satisfaction at the school * There is only the one branch, not a dozen or so like ET, thus making quality control much easier * It's supposedly located in Besiktas (this has been verified - ed) * It is the only language school in Turkey that is accredited by Quality English: an independent organization that apparently provides some kind of language-school quality control |

| COMMENTS: "British Side asks for two years experience ( although some teachers were hired with less) and CELTA or other certificate, like a TESOL cert. Part Timers make 35 YTL per hour , and yes, 40 YTL for a DELTA. And it's nice that teaching 10-14 hours a week you can make a living...and still have plenty of time left over to do privates or teach somewhere else..." posted February 2007 |
