Bilge Adam
September 2007 Update - Spoke to employee of this school - in Bakirkoy area, and he was v. pleased working here.  Cited  great conditions and equipment, and a great wage. Had no reason to plug the place so I tend to think he was sincere - ed
August 2007 update

BilgeAdam has opened branches in Bakirkoy - one in the new TownCentre, the other down Ebuzziya Cad towards the ferries (the boats not the eccentric men...). I have not done much else other than walk by.  I may actually go inside v. soon and will post comments.

I have not heard anything about this school.  Apparently it is a tech school.  They are hiring on tefl.com.  From what I have been able to figure out, they offer average to below-average salaries. Update March 2007: The school has shown up on ESLcafe, so I've posted teacher ops below.
LOCATION:

Kadikoy & Besiktas, Istanbul

Address: Bilge Adam IT Academy 19 Mayis cd. 5961 UBM Kat 7. Fulya, Besiktas, Istanbul

FAX: +90 212 272-7601
EMAIL: [email protected]

THE OFFER:

"satisfactory salary"; all public and national holidays off; medical insurance; bonus (as observed thru students' questionnaires);  free computer lessons; free Turkish lessons; social activities, trips: 16-22 YTL per hour

CLASSROOMS:

all classrooms are air-conditioned & equipped with LCD screen projectors;  removable PCs with internet connection; a teacher's room with 15 computers

QUALIFICATIONS:

native-speaking English teachers; already residing in Istanbul (probably means they do not provide accommodation);  B.A. in TEFL or Social Sciences;  have CALL experience; have employment history in Turkey of at least one year; use social interaction and multimedia techniques in the classroom
"1. Pay is salary (1900 to 2500) (YTL I presume - ed) for full-timers (30 hours)
2.  They say they have free Turkish classes - they don't.
3.  They supposedly give a basic free health insurance to full-timers.
4.  Two weeks paid vacation in a year.
5.  Classrooms are fully furnished with computers, projectors. etc (translation - internet cafe)
6.  The books are written by Bilge Adam, and stink (hm, remind anyone of any other language school? - ed).  At the intermediate level, they use the New Interchange , Upper Intermediate is business English only and they use In-Company (note - transition between all levels is nearly impossible)
7.. There is no structure to the education at the school.  Turkish teachers lay the floor work and teach every aspect of grammar  up to  Advanced  within the ELementary and PRe-Int levels, then the natives come in and clean up the mess.
8.  If you want easy money you can work here and put up with the worst students I have ever seen (that's pretty harsh - ed), but if you give a shit you won't last more than a few months  I'm looking for a way out."

ESL cafe March 3, 2007
The above diatribe was in response to a new poster providing information on ESL cafe re Bilge Adam.  The poster noted that the school was looking for teachers.  Methinks the poster is an employee of said organization.  The poster said:

" It is a very good company to work for and there are many benefits, like paid holidays and salary (as opposed ot an hourly rate).  It is a very relaxed atmosphere, secure, and the resources are endless.  They have copies hundreds (sic) of English teaching materials, a laminating machine, films, computers for every student in the classroom, projectors, etc.
