| Deulcom | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Deulcom, an "award winning" school with a focus in Tourism, has undergone some changes in the past few years. As a foreign teacher working at this school, students were awesome, management, hmmm, well, this is the only place where I had to wait to get my pay. Coming here from ET, I found the environment to be a lot different. In the staffroom before classes, at ET we'd bounce ideas off of each other all the time. We'd also discuss teaching a particularly difficult grammar point. At Deulcom, there were few foreign teachers. Don't ask for help, you're making more money than the Turkish english teachers - something I was clueless about until after I left. Other than the one time that my pay was late, I had no real problems, other than missing the camaraderie I had with the other teachers at ET. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Teacher Opinions and Experiences | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In Eminonu, just a side street up from the ferry area. This is a major hotel location, and as such, good food, but more expensive than you'd find in other areas - in my opinion. There are lots of travel agents here - shop around and you will find great bargains on plane fares and day trips. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I worked there for the better part of a year, no contract. I was one of two foreign teachers that worked there. The lower level students were great - the one upper level class I had was ruthless. The other foreign teacher there was a guitar-playing alcoholic that had pulled a runner from ET. I had to wait in the summer to get my pay, as it was a slow time. This startled me, never having been made to wait previously, and as I was not on contract, began looking immediately for other options, which I found soon enough. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| "I worked at Deulcom for 9 months, and my experience was different from those stated by (other posters). As per contract, I always received my salary within the last two weeks of the month. (2 weeks is a pretty wide time frame - ed). I had to cut short my contract due to illness in the family. I really enjoyed my stay in Turkey and hope to go back in the near future. Deulcom did everything they had promised and then more: I was picked up at the airport , the company paid for a one-month stay in a hotel (wow- ed), and they reimbursed my plane ticket... Furthermore they paid for and did all the paperwork related to my residence and work permits. On the down side the accommodations provided could have been better (hey - accommodations weren't even offered when I was there - ed) and health insurance is not included in the package...Definately reccommended LINK December 1, 2006 |

| "I will tell you that EVERY native teacher leaves their Taksim branch because of being paid late. This ususally takes place between April and September. In the summer it's really bad, with employees being paid as much as a month late. Other than that, nice school, and they treat you well, with good resources." posted October, 2006 |

| "It is the typical TEFL chain with many Turkish teachers and shared native-Turkish teacher classes. The real teachers do the serious stuff and the natives do a bit of speaking (not my case - I had my own classes - ed). They employed at that time any native speaker and were a joke amongst the few native speakers for employing alkies and east european phd students as native speakers (some truth to this - ed). posted Dec. 2005 |
