| "Anyone with Hearing Problems?" |
| (2/27/2000) An adult (Linda Sullivan, [email protected]) with Moebius has written that she is experiencing a serious case of tinnitus. She's wondering whether anyone else has ever experienced this, what can be done about it, and whether it relates to Moebius syndrome. (editor's note: I have a bilateral mild to moderate sensorineural hearing loss that I learned is directly related to Moebius. In plain English, this means that both ears have a hearing impairment related to the connection between the ear and the hearing center in the brain. Since I didn't have an audiogram before noticing the loss of hearing, I have no idea just how much my hearing has changed over time. Since the cranial nerve that affects hearing is right next to "our" cranial nerve (the seventh, the one that gives us Moebius) and many people with Moebius have hearing impairments of one kind or another, we need to be aware of hearing problems as teens or adults and learn how to manage them.) |
