| Jennifer Halverson Selected to Participate in 'National Leadership Conference for Youth with Disabilities' |
| (May 29, 2000) After having first learned of the "National Leadership Conference for Youth With Disabilities" in an earlier edition of 'MoebiUS', Jennifer Halverson, a college student soon to enter her junior year, decided to apply for one of the 125 positions. The national conference, held each year in June, has become a forum for youths with disabilities to become America's leaders of the future. Competition, according to Ms. Halvorsen, was keen - she was one of 400 applicants for the 125 available slots. In achieving this prestigious opportunity, Jennifer has shown once again what many people already know - that individuals with Moebius syndrome can, and do, accomplish great things. In participating in such a national conference, Jennifer will have the opportunity to become an effective advocate, not only for people with Moebius syndrome but also for others who are affected by rare and poorly understood conditions. I am proud that this newsletter has provided the information necessary for someone with Moebius to accomplish something of such great significance! I wish Jennifer the best as she looks forward to this exciting opportunity, and I think she would probably appreciate words of encouragement and support from all the rest of the online Moebius community. Congratulations, Jennifer! [email protected] |
