| (editor's note: Diane Folaron is an Alaskan resident and artist. Diane also has Moebius syndrome. Reading Diane's poetry enables one to really imagine what it must be like to live in such a ruggedly beautiful environment. Diane can be reached at [email protected].) Diane writes: "I live across the Tanana and Delta rivers, right where they converge together....it is very beautiful! I live at Whitestone Farms. We're a christian community here..part of Living Word Ministries. During summer...we boat across the rivers to our property...and in the winter, the Delta River "dries" up....the water from the melting glaciers freeze and the rivers stop flowing and ice jams stop the flow of this summertime torrential river! The salmon spawn where the Tanana and Delta meet...so we walk in the Spring and Fall when the river is too low and icy to boat and not frozen over enough to drive! ADVENTUROUS! We are the concessions for Rika's Roadhouse State Historical Park located off the Alaska Highway. Traversing the river is a major occupation! We are on homestead property...overlooking the Alaska Range. I do love it here....even with the -60 below weather! I am an artist and a woodworker...enjoying the ability to be creative...ALSO Farming!!! |
| "Reach out!" The sky's the limit Echoing in my ears Framing my thoughts Keeping my heart I press on.. Seizing the beauty of the new day I catch the sparks of energy in the prismatic crystals of pure white snow I look up toward the mountains, the glistening glaciers bathed in dazzling light and my strength is renewed The deep blue of the sky penetreates my soul, refreshing my thoughts and clearing my mind I am ALIVE! Enveloped in a goal greater than myself I reach out to hold the fragile beauty of the morning's dew-filled rose I embrace her fragrance as my portion... full of her promise of love and joy Freely I give.. In this journey called life.. Walking out the daily pages of my adventurous heart True beauty Unfolds in loving hands... a warm smile filling the heart ...Reaching beyond the barrier |
