"Ability Online -
a friendly and safe computer network for kids with special needs"
(editor's note: This is a SUPER FANTASTIC and ABSOLUTELY TRUSTWORTHY
computer support network.  Dr. Arlette LeFevre is a child psychiatrist from
The Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto, Canada (also home to Dr. Ronald
Zuker!).  She's been instrumental in addressing psychosocial issues related
to facial differences, via 'AboutFace' and other resources.  If you'd like
your child to connect in a safe and trusting environment with others, this
is the place to go!)

"Ability OnLine is a friendly and safe computer friendship network where
children and youth with disabilities or chronic illnesses connect to each
other as well as to their friends, family members, caregivers and
supporters. Free and easy to use, Ability OnLine not only gives wings to
thousands of young people by removing social and physical barriers that can
come with having a disability or illness, but it also provides opportunities
for children and adolescents to exchange information, build self-confidence,
share hope and encouragement and make valued friends.

Because computer-based communication removes the social barriers that can
come with a disability - it is only the words of a friend that people see on
their computer screen - Ability OnLine offers a wealth of opportunities for
children and youth with special needs including:
- A non-threatening and non-judgemental environment based on mutual respect
- The ability to share information, experiences, stories and interests
- Peer acceptance and support
- An opportunity to build a network of new and valued friends
- A strong family orientation
- Increased health awareness ..."
