My friend found himself stuck on a trail waiting for a moose to get out of the way. Do not approach the moose from behind. My friend tried tossing stones near the moose to scare it off, but the moose just ignored it. Best bet, just sit and wait.
I found that moose can pop out of nowhere. I was sitting at my campsite when one popped out of woods. Lets say that I was a caught off guard and ran for the shelter. The moose just grunted a bit and eventually left. The park ranger told me that the female moose are much easier to deal with than the male ones. I would tend to agree.
