Themes - Fate vs. Chance. Making assumptions.

Plot -           After the bar closes, Jack enters a palm reader’s shop hoping to get some insight into why his girlfriend stood him up. He meets Selena, a medium who may or may not be a charlatan. At first, Jack hesitates to ask to have his fortune read because he is a skeptic. Selena, however, turns out to be insightful and a good judge of human character. She exposes his reasons for coming to the shop and the fact that he has made assumptions about her ethnic background. Jack, in turn, admits that he has been stood up by his girlfriend, Donna, and is unsure about the future of their relationship. He eventually succumbs to the fortune teller’s charms and accepts her guidance.
