A volcano is a mountain that was formed by the accumalation of materials that were "spit" out of a hole in the earth's surface. Most volcanoes are steep mountains but some are flat plateaus or plains. The above ground volcano is well known but most are beneath water.Volcanoes are dangerous to mankind and wildlife mostly from lava and falling ash. The ash can be harmful to airplanes.

All volcanoes are formed by magma which is lava when it is underground.the magma rises because magma is less dense tha the soil. After some time enough magma accumalates that the volcano erupts.ash is blown into the atmosphere because of the explosion.

There are 3 type of volcanoes: The cinder cone, the composite volcano and the shield volcano. The cinder cone has a weak cinder explosion but the composite volcano is destructive. Shield volcanoes aren't steep and don't explode but just fluid pours out.
