The tiger is a feline mammal.They were found in almost all of asia's forested areas until deforestation and excessive hunting. Tigers are closely related to lions, leopards and jaguars. They are the only striped feline. There are 8 subscices of tigers. The extinct ones are the Caspian Tiger, The Javan Tiger and The Bali Tiger. The species that are still alive are: Amur/Siberian Tiger, The Bengal/Indian Tiger, The Sumatran Tiger, The Indochinese Tiger and the very rare South China Tiger.Tiger sizes range from 75kgs to 258kg. The tiger is the biggest cat in the world. The pattern of stripes can be used to tell Tigers apart. All tigers except for the rare genectic mutant White Tigers have yellow eyes. Tigers have good hearing and smell.Tigers claws are retractable. Tigers in the zoo live up to 20 years while wild tigers can live 15. Most of a Tigers cubs(young) die before they become an adult. Tigers usually live and hunt alone. The only animals safe from tigers are adult elephants and rhinoceres. They rely on stealth to catch prey. Tigers must kill about every 8 days to be fed.Tigers catch there prey only 50% of the time. Tigers can reproduce about every 2 years. Only about 6,000 wild tigers are alive today.Tigers are an endangered species. In short time tigers will be extict.
