Crosswise the coolest RID Spychanger; Blowout, Firecracker, & the Jusco Exclusives.
Here we see Crosswise the coolest looking of the six current Robots in Disguise spychangers. Since this is my sight I get to make statements like this ;) . I wish I could have taken sharper pictures of him but my camera can only pull in so close to an item and still have it come out relatively clear. So what makes Crosswise so cool? I'm going to say that it's because he's cast in clear plastic with the painted details underlying the clear plastic. I always thought that one of the coolest toys ever made was the see-through clear plastic mail-away Predator. There's something about clear toys that just cries out "Hey I'm cool!"
So while we're on the subject I'll address some other clear Transformers. In G2 we had Blowout and Firecracker. Blowout is cast in a sort of smokey grey and Firecracker is in a nice clear red. I'm still waiting on getting my G2 Blowout, so I'll have more to say about him when he arrives. As for Firecracker, I still need to get him, if you can help me out email me at [email protected] .
Now there are six  more spychangers cast in clear colors but they aren't in G2 or RID. Rather these six were issued as exclusives in the Japanese Car Robots 2000 line. To make matters worse they were exclusive to a retail chain in Japan called Jusco, and only as promos. I don't know the details of this promotion but I'm guessing they are rather limited. Like the BotCon 95 Nightracer exclusive these little guys demand about $30 or more on Ebay. Since I am too cheap I think I won't be seeing these in my collection any time soon....
I do have one hope though: McDonalds. I'm not talking about food here either. As we all know Hasbro has done several Transformers Beast Wars promos through McDonalds. All those toys were rather lame to say the least. When I was contemplating what McDonalds might do as a promo for RID (and they are bound to do one) I was thinking about how the spychangers were practically the size of McD promos. This lead me to thinking that since Hasbro (well Takara in Japan) already released these Jusco exclusives as promos in Japan, maybe if we're lucky we'll see them as McDonalds exclusives here in the States.
I'm assuming that the McD tie-in promo should hit this Fall when the RID cartoon hits the airwaves. We'll have to wait until then to see if my prediction holds any water. (Editor's note: We never did get the Jusco's as McD promo's but Kay Bee did release two waves of "stealth" spychangers; 2002 had them in RID style packaging and 2003 had them in Armada style packaging. 2/22/04)
Well that about wraps this segment up. With any luck we'll be dining on fine McDonalds cuisine in a few months and enjoying some more cool spychangers at the same time. Warning: Small toys may pose a choking hazard to small children and stupid people, so for God's sake don't put these things in your mouth.

          END OF LINE.
Below: First Shot pre-production sample of Crosswise. Basically an unpainted Crosswise. Looks pretty cool. Someone on EBay seems to think so as this item is at $50.  This picture added on 8/29/01
