HOW COOL IS THIS GUY?
Well I just had to add this picture I found today. I was surfing the web trying to locate info about the Osaka Toy Fair Japanese Car Robots 2000 Super Car Brothers set when I came upon this beauty. You can probably see that I touched up the background on this shot, I did that to cover up the feet of a reissue G1 Optimus and some Japanese text.  ANYHOW, what we have here may be the coolest CR2000 promo I've seen to date. The rough info I have on him is that he was offered as an exclusive through the purchase of some sort of DVD in Japan.
OK Kid Rhino, you guys are in charge of US video and DVD releases of
Transformers episodes here in the states lets see if you can manage to make this toy available within the next year.  Yeah right! If we could only get the cool stuff they offer in Japan released in the states. Just imagine how cool it would be to own this puppy. People have said that the Black Battle Convoy version of G2 Laser Optimus Prime
was cool. That may be true but I have little to base my opinion on yet. Black Battle Convoy will be released in Robots in Disguise (RID) later this year.
This piece on the other hand I can pass an opinion on because I already got his US
RID release. The new Optimus is really, really cool.... as a matter of fact I think I'll be doing a another subpage just on him sometime soon. I wish I had a shot of this guy in his G1 tribute mode (thats the middle transformation). It's clear to see in any case that his battle base form (the base you can form while OP is in his tribute form) would be a nice black color. This would allow for two Autobot spychanger bases. I for one could use another spychanger base as I am about to be overrun with G2 spychangers.
Naturally at this point I make my obligatory plea for something cool I need in my collection. I WANT THIS TOY, if you have any info on how to get one please email me at: [email protected] . If you know how to get one in Japan and can offer me the method I could get a friend of mine in Japan to order one for me. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. If all else fails I'll just have to sit back and see what promos get made in the US. Onto the subject of Promos and exclusives.
With this toy and not counting
G1 reissues, there are 12 promo toys from Japanese Car Robots 2000. Since the CR2000 is now our Robots in Disguise 2001 line we can hopefully expect to see some of the promos get introduced through other channels in the US. The first six promos are the Jusco exclusive spychangers, they are discussed briefly on my G2 Gobots to RID Spychangers subpage, link over to there to check out my opinion on what will happen with those guys. The second two are Wrecker Hook and Indy Heat in clear colored plastics. My understanding is that these are also Jusco exclusives. That makes 8 toys that Jusco got as exclusives during CR2000. Kay Bee had a total of 8 vehicles in their exclusive Machine Wars line a few years back. Now this sounds like a great idea for us to see promos in the US, have Kay Bee release them as an exclusive offshoot line of RID2001. Well it's an idea.
So we're up to 8 promos from
CR2000. This black beauty here makes the 9th promo. The last three are actually three pieces released in one set. These are the Super Car Brothers, from the Osaka Toy Fair in Japan. Although the box for the set is a bland black and white design, the toys within are the coolest. (Yes cooler than Crosswise). Below are some so-so scans of the Super Car Brothers set. This set seems to go for about $150-$175 at online retailers. I've seen quite a few of these on auction for under $100 on Ebay.... I almost got one for about $55 but I was outbid at the very last second by a guy who bid $65. Oh well, "them's the breaks kid".

If I manage to get this set, or at least better images of it I will surely do another subpage devoted to them. To me clear toys = cool toys, and I would love to have these "X-ray" versions of X-Brawn, Prowl, and Side Burn. Any channel of US release besides Target would be fine by me. Mail-away promos, Video offer, Store exclusive, whatever just so long as I can get my hands on them. Perhaps if Hasbro releases the repaints of these three guys and those go over well with the public they might introduce these in the primary RID line.  If these toys are anywhere near as cool as they look I don't see why Hasbro wouldn't milk the cash cow and release them. Seeing as they were reportedly limited to 1500 sets I suppose the best bet to get these produced would be next year's Botcon. I have high hopes for the botcon next year and I hope to be able to afford to attend it.
Looks like I'm running out of room on this page, so I guess I'll wrap it up.  I'd just like to say that the images on this subpage will probably be the coolest I have to offer for a while. So feast your eyes and enjoy the eye-candy. I'm out like a light......
