Little Leonie Shaw was only 6 years old when she was mowed down by a hit and run driver on the 13th April 2002. Leonie died the next morning of head, leg and internal injuries. Her mother Michelle was by her bedside. Her death caused quite a stir in the Community of Bishop Auckland County Durham. England. People were so stunned by what happened that they paid their respects to Leonie by leaving flowers, toys and cards at the scene of the accident, as their condolances to her and her family. Leonie also has two sisters, Jade 11 and Emily 2 . The school that Leonie attended was only a few yards from where she was knocked down, the youngsters of St. Andrews School called her their " Little Angel " They left their tributes to her and the best one will be a Cherry Tree planted in the school grounds on her birthday. The memory of Leonie will live on, and I hope that her family will accept this little tribute to her. The driver of the car that hit Leonie, stopped, went up to her then got back in his car and took off. He was caught, he and his girlfriend were charged, I won't give them another mention, as they are not fit to be on the same page as Leonie. |
