Most transfers are free. Just ask the first bus driver for one when you board, and hand
it to the driver of the second bus when you get on it. If you need the transfer for a
third bus, tell the driver and he'll return it to you. If you started your trip on the
Trolley, save your ticket and use it like a transfer if you need to board a bus.
You can use the transfer anytime within two hours. If you're transferring to a Bus or
Trolley with a higher fare, you'll have to pay the difference.
Seniors and the Disabled
Seniors and Disabled ride for reduced fare on Buses show the driver proper ID, pay your
cash fare or show your monthly pass. On Rail vehicles purchase your ticket from the
vending machine in advance of boarding and show it or your monthly pass and proper ID to
the fare inspector or conductor upon request. We accept the following forms of
identification:
- Drivers License
- Medicare Card
- MTS Senior/Disabled I.D. Card
- NCTD Senior/Disabled I.D. Card
- State of California DMV Placard I.D.
- State of California Senior I.D. Card
Accommodations for Senior and Disabled
The front of every Bus and areas next to each Trolley door have priority seating for
your Senior and Disabled riders. All Buses have lift mechanisms to assist customers in
wheelchairs or with other mobility impairments to board. The international symbol of
accessibility is on Bus stops that are accessible to operate the lift. All Trolley
stations (except Market and 12th , downtown San Diego) are wheelchair accessible. All
Coaster stations are wheelchair accessible.
Many buses also have a "kneeling" feature that allows the front of the bus to
lower towards the curb, easing the first step into the bus. "Kneeling" buses are
designated at the front door. If you need to use the lift, or have the bus
"kneel", be sure and ask the driver when he or she opens the door. We'll be
happy to assist you in using these features. Trolley conductors also welcome the
opportunity to assist you.
