Chinese 120: Chinese I (5 hours of lecture)
            A introductory course to the Chinese language and the culture of its speakers. The purpose is to facilitate the practical application of the language in everyday oral and written communication at the beginning novice level. Since the focus is on basic communication skills, the class will be sonducted in Mandarin Chinese as much as possible. While becoming familiar with the Chinese speaking worled, students will learn structures that will enable them to function in Chinese in everyday contexts.
Chinese 121: Chinese II (5 hours of lecture)
            A continuation of Chinese 120. Course will continue to develop oral and written skills based on practical everyday needs.
Chinese 199: Special studies, or Projects in Chinese (1-3 units)
            Individual Study, research or projects. See instructor for details.
