Kdevelop
I used to be a KDE fan, but that era has ended. Nevertheless, this is a good
pretty good IDE for anyone wanting to program. Features code-completion,
a GUI gdb based debugger, valgrind integration, project management and much
more. Check out the website.

Povray
An excellent raytracer. Can create absolutely stunning 3-D imagery. But there are alternative raytracers available, which do not give the quality of Povray, but are a lot faster. May help if u have a slow comp like mine. Google for more. (Yafray comes to mind ...)

Python
It's a programming language actually. Most probably you have heard about it. The best thing is that it has a very gentle learning curve. You may be surprised with how much you accomplish in a short time. Those of you with young siblings/cousins should check it out as a starting language for them.

Quanta
An excellent HTML editor for KDE desktops. This website was designed in Quanta. No WYSIWYG features though :(
