The Scharfs were both members of Kibbutz movement of Bnei Akiva, and in 1978 made aliya to Kibbutz Ma'ala Giboa, located above the historical bet-alpha and the lush gardens of Gan Hashlosha. The Scharfs four children, Tzvi, Leah, Orit, and Yochanan were born on the Kibbutz. In 1998, the Scharfs relocated to Moshav Beit Yatir, located in the biblical landscape of the southern Hebron hills.
The Scharfs maintain a macrobiotic lifestyle, enjoy the Beachboys, Enya, and new wave music.
Mr. Scharf is currently employeed at HyperRoll in Omer as a technical writer.
