Okay I know this is just another "desert" map, hey, everybody is entitled to at least one :-).

An interesting mix of ancient architecture and modern technology, Sand has a definite Mid East flavor but it could just as easily be Spain, the Mediterranean, Asia, or Latin America.

You might notice just a dash of Tomb Raider thrown in there for good seasoning.

There are 3 secrets in this town. Don't read any further if you want to explore on your own.

Find the house where the wise man lives and rub the crystal ball. It will reveal clues about the map.

The first secret is the Well of three wishes, (although it could also be called the well of tears, or the well of many - many incinerations and grief, the well of yet another lava mote, etc) lol, Once you find the lever to open the door at the bottom of the well there are three pick ups in there, but you have to jump some pillars to get them.

The second is the "The Jinn's", flying carpet at the camp site. To activate it, press jump three times.

The third is the detonator in one of the houses.

If it appears that the pick ups are too easy to get I may change them. I thought it was fairly difficult to get them when I tested the map by myself, but a friend was on the server the other night and did it like he was playing hop scotch, so we'll have to wait and see. It may be too easy for some of the advanced players.

That's about it for now, hope you like it.

Prologue:

Welcome to the high desert.

This town used to be a small village of shepherds and weavers (you can still see some of the original ruins on the hillside) until oil was discovered in the late 1940's. Foreign investment has brought new roads, utilities and modern conveniences to the area, but the place can still be pretty rough at times.

Like most places in the desert, settlements are clustered around natural water supplies like a river or a well. In Sand, most of the homes are built on the East side of the stream. This is because the desert produces very little rain fall and the ground becomes baked and hardened by the sun, so that when it does rain, the water doesn't have a chance to soak in, leaving the West side susceptible to flash floods. That's why there's not a lot of homes built over there. Modern irrigation controls have reduced the problem but not eliminated it completely.

There is a Palace at the far end of town, owned by one of the oldest and wealthiest families in the region. They employ a small well armed security force to protect against bandits and kidnappers. A growing threat in the third world.

The hot house provides a community fire place. The desert can get awfully cold.

The cool house provides fresh drinking water. The desert can get awfully hot.

The tale of the Jinn.

There is a Jinn in the town, his name is "J" and he created the sand and the water and the sky. He also negotiated a shrewd contract with British Petroleum to make the town's people extremely rich and prosperous.

But he is a humble Jinn, and prefers the peace and solitude of his modest tent in the high desert which he loves so much. As a favor to his neighbors, he receives visitors from time to time, to aid them in their daily cares. For this the people love their Jinn, and do not fear him.

There are rumors that the Jinn possesses a great treasure, won in battle, smuggled across the desert from a far away land. It is called the flying carpet of Jinn, woven from the mane of Pegasus, stitched by the snakes of Medusa, Enchanted with a magic spell that insured it would only respond by thrice issuing an unknown command in a forgotten language

It is said that while the Jinn sleeps, a clever thief could sneak in there and steal the carpet, but you didn't hear it from me, I don't know of such things...
