Half a Heart of Flesh (And Half of Thorns) -4/26/05 All hearts are hurt and all have been betrayed: We all play Judas to each others’ Christ, And by our sins our own hearts have been priced: We’re stuck with thorns because the path we’ve strayed. So when we meet another such we try To scab our hearts together with our fears, And build a lasting joy from bitter tears That, when the hearts are torn apart, we cry. But what if it was blood that bound us two, If with the blood of Christ we could be graced, And salt was absent from this bond of ours? If hearts could beat with blood that was so true, As wound-so-raw to wound-so-raw is placed, Our hearts would heal together without scars.
