St. Valentine’s Day Prayer –2/14/04 As time and time again the wheel turns And joyful years fade soft to solitude, We see Love seldom gets that which it earns And up upon us creeps a certain mood. So when you see the girl who takes your heart And leaves you with an effervescent breath, You cannot see through any sacred art How anything can end in ought but Death. But, soft! Inside a voice does cry aloud, “I’d wager all the world on one last bid If I but ne’er did see her under shroud, If she would stay, not fade like others did!” Lord God, let me love truly, deep and well. Just give me her, though all else goes to Hell.
