| Why ignore Abortion? Abortion is a very important issue to many across the country. Halt/Hart also feels that Abortion is a very important issue and that it should be addressed. However, Abortion is also a very divisive issue. There are roughly 260 million people in this country, which means we have about 260 million opinions on Abortion. Abortion is a highly personal thing. Your opinion on abortion is also highly influenced by your religion and morality. Your opinion on what to do about it also stems from your religion and also your views on the role of government. It is hard to come to a consensus on the issue with so many varying viewpoints and opinions. As can be seen, whenever Abortion is pushed, trouble ensues. People become divided, angry, and begin to attack each other. That is not what we want to do at HALT/HART. There are many aspects about Abortion that people can agree on. However, the most fundamental aspect- whether or not it should be legal- brings about great controversy. We here do not want to ignore the issue completely. Both creators feel strongly about it and the need for it as a political issue to be resolved. However, we will unable to solve an issue that means so many different things to so many different people if we first don't not come to some sort of mutual respect and understanding. We want this issue to be resolved. We want people to be able to come to some sort of balance and agreement where everyone can win. Unfortunaly, militants on both sides have taken hold of this issue and used it to seperate the right and left further. Is there a solution to this issue? HALT/HART says yet. In fact, many people alreayd talk about the solution, the creators for one have had an open dialogue about it. The country at large though can never have that dialogue until we come together and are willing to listen. Therefore, we at HALT/LART beleive that until we have worked together, trust each other, respect each other, and understand each other, this divisive issue should be somewhat ignored for more urgent issues that will build the trust that will one day be needed to solve the debate over Abortion. |
