Swampscott FACS
Grade 6 Babysitter Kit

Collect 5-8 toys and/or games and at least one book appropriate for children between the ages of infant to 9 years old
and bring them to school in a bag or backpack.
You may prefer to make a poster with pictures of toys.
Students will share and discuss their choices with the class.

Guidelines:
1. Choose a specific age child (ie.3 years old) or choose an age range(ie.2-6 years old)
2. Be able to tell the class why you chose the toys in your kit:
Did you have any safety concerns? You should if the child is less than 3 years old.
Why are your toys appropriate for the mental and physical
development of the age group you chose?

3. You may also show some inappropriate toys and tell why you think they are not appropriate.

If you babysit often you may want to make this recipe and keep it in your sitter kit.
Be sure to get permission to use the stove!

Quick and Easy Cooked Playdough Recipe

2 cups cold water
1 cup salt
2 cups flour
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
Food coloring (optional)

Mix all ingredients together. (If necessary, sift flour into water while stirring to make sure it is well blended.) Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. The dough will start to form small globs before it reaches a fairly uniform consistency and begins to separate from the sides of the pan.
When it begins to stick to the spoon rather than the pan, remove it and place on wax paper to cool. When cool, knead it to a smooth and even consistency. Store in a plastic container with a tightly fitting lid and it will last a very long time.
