CCAE General Meeting Minutes
October 18th, 2006
Members Present: Nikki Amaro, Frances Armenta, Karen Castille, Carmen Zapata, Charlotte Crandall, Lorrie Christie, Glenda Lopez, Gary Dehrer, Annette Beck, Ingrid Cardenas, Kim Eatmon, Frank Ibarra
I. Call to order:
Meeting was called to order at 2:39 p.m. by President, Teresa Loftis.
II. Approval of Minutes:
Lorrie Christie made a motion to approve the minutes as posted in the CCAE website. The motion was seconded by Charlotte Crandall. Motion was passed.
III. Treasurer’s Report:
Frances Armenta reported:
Savings Account: $3612.15
Checking Account: $2341.07 - $495 for See’s Candy order
IV. Committee Reports:
(a) Mary Fitzgerald reported that we have 71 members. New members that did not get billed for membership in October will be billed twice in November.
(b) Frances Armenta and Annette Beck reported on the See’s fundraiser. We expect deliver of the See’s candy on the 24th. We have ordered 9 cases of the assorted candy and we will sell them for .60 each. We will give staff copies of the Christmas candy boxes to sell to students or staff. Annette mentioned that the See’s candy fundraisers are the biggest fundraisers for CCAE so we need to push sales as much as possible. The Halloween basket has been cancelled.
(c) Karen Castille reported on Legislative issues: SB 1209 reduces barriers for out of state teachers. The governor supports this bill, but we are not sure if it was passed or not. Professional growth was not mentioned, but Karen will look for more information on this issue.
(d) Carmen Zapata had nothing to report for the Sunshine Committee
(e) Annette Beck reported on CCAE Chapter awards: (1) classified and (1) certificated employees will receive an award at the at the Palm Springs conference. Chapter awards go to Claudia for her hard work for the ESL program and for helping CCAE . Heck Thomas also received an award for always being there for staff, students, and the community.
Old Business:
(a) Teresa reported that the section conference dates are October 27th ,28th ,and 29th. 13 people from San Bernardino Adult School are scheduled to attend the conference. A total of 164 people are registered to attend. We would like to thank our administrators for allowing staff to attend these conferences.
(b) Mary Fitzgerald reported on the baskets for the section conference. Mary mentioned that we have 5 baskets: movie, coffee, Italian, Christmas, and the feng shui. Baskets will be raffled during lunch or dinner.
New Business:
(a) Mary will organize a potluck for November 3rd. The theme for the pot luck will be “Falling in Love with Italy.” Nikki has volunteered to be on the social committee and assist with organizing the potluck.
(b) Holiday party is scheduled for Friday, December 1st
(c) Opportunity drawing winner was Annette Beck. She won $9.50.
(d) Teresa mentioned that a lot of students had inquired about a flyer that was placed on our Discovery Day board. Students are interested in our Thanksgiving baskets. Teresa suggested that we accept food donations to make baskets to raffle. Depending on the amount of turkeys donated we will give away the same amount of baskets. Usually, students that are in need win the baskets. Charlotte suggested putting up a sign-in sheet in the medical building and in the parenting center. We will start selling tickets on November 6th.
(e) Glenda reported that membership dues have been the same for the past 15 years and membership is has declined. Certificated pay $50 now but the price might go up to $75 - $100. Glenda also mentioned that Lorrie Christie is now our section secretary.
(f) Glenda mentioned that next fall our section will be hosting the 2008 state conference. Student input is important for Ledge day and we should raise money to send students and we need to start thinking about the selection process.
