IV.              Committee Reports:

(a) Mary Fitzgerald reported for the Membership Committee.  Mary mentioned that we currently have 52 active members and 11 others would like to join and have paperwork in progress.

Mary also reported that the Social Committee has agreed to have a Fall Harvest pot luck on November 3rd.  Claudia Zaragoza has agreed to help with this activity.  Mary would like our help with ideas for the decorations and games

(b) Frances Armenta and Annette Beck reported on the plans for fundraisers: Halloween basket, See’s suckers, Christmas See’s candy, and Valentine candy, and pencil & book sales.

Annette announced that the price of the See’s suckers has gone up.  She asked if we should raise the selling price to .55 or .60?  Annette also asked if we should sell the $5 boxes of See’s candy or if we should order the bigger chocolate assorted boxes?  The assorted boxes sell for $14.10 and we make $4.25 profit.  The majority agreed that we should just sell the $5 boxes.

Annette also mentioned that we will be asking for donations for the Halloween basket.  A sign up sheet will be posted on the staffroom door.

Glenda suggested a Cookie Lee party as a fundraiser.  Mary is going to talk to a friend that sells Cookie Lee to see if this is something we could do.

 (c) Karen Castille reported on Legislative issues:

The Senate failed to pass three key bills:  AB 2532 would increase the caps on adult education programs to ensure that space would be available for students who have completed their senior year but had not yet passed the CAHSEE.

AB 2163 would have expanded summer school opportunities for students in the second through sixth grades who are at risk of falling behind.  This bill would have also ensured that students who had completed their senior year but had not yet passed the exit exam could come back to high school as a fifth year senior or be provided other public school options to take the courses they need to pass the exam.

AB1570 would have increased the number of California Partnership Academies in high schools throughout the state.

O’Connell did applaud Legislative approval of bill 1383 that will allow students who pass the summer and/or fall administrations of the exit exam to continue to be eligible for a CalGrant.  The bill will extend the CalGrant application deadline for students who pass the exit exam administered in July and in the fall.

(d) Carmen Zapata reported that Charlotte Crandall has volunteered to be our historian and take photos.  Susan Dela Cruz has volunteered to run our sunshine committee.  She will be in charge of sending out birthday cards, get well cards, etc.

(e)    Annette Beck reported on the awards that will be given out during the Southern Section Conference.  We would like to recognize a certificated and a classified person from our school.  Please turn in your nominations to any of the CCAE board members.  Annette also mentioned that help is needed for the awards committee, if anyone is interested.

Annette also mentioned that we need to turn in any nominations for the “caught being good” award.  Nominations can be turned in to the box located in the staff room.  We will be giving this award monthly.  This month the “caught being good” certificated award went to Brenda Rivas for her help with CCAE fund raisers, and for assisting with section level work shops.  Brenda is a past CCAE treasurer and continues to help by volunteering as a room monitor.  Students enjoy and respect her.

Karen Castille was nominated for the classified “caught being good” award for her participation in CCAE and keeping the school’s attendance in order.

V.                 Old Business:

             Nothing to report

VI.              New Business:

(a)    Section Conference dates – October 27,28,29, 2006

Glenda reported that we need volunteers to be room monitors and pass out evaluation forms.  Help is also needed for the registration table.

Glenda also mentioned that we need volunteers to get raffle baskets together for the conference.  If anyone is interested please see Glenda for a flyer that includes ideas for the baskets.

We also need more people from our section to attend the section meetings.  We need to encourage others that are not from San Bernardino to volunteer for some of the leadership position

Annette Beck said that CCAE would like to donate gifts to raffle at the conference.  Anyone that would like to donate anything, or if you would like to ask others for donations, we would appreciate your help.
