Where is the Bike School, and how do I unlock it? A. It's in the Blackfield area of Las Venturas, and you can go there as soon as you unlock the city. Blackfield is in the West of the city, and the school is West of the Airport and South of the Racing Track (it's a red $ on the map). To start the lessons, enter the building and step into the red circle in front of the television. Q. What are the rewards for doing the lessons? A. Increase in bike skills Unlock bikes that appear in front of the school Complete Percentage increase They increase you bike skills (you get an increase when you complete all the lessons but you also get small increases when you go through them anyway, much like when you are using a bike anywhere in the game). You can unlock bikes that appear outside the school, which are different for Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze = Freeway, Silver = FCR-900 and Gold = NRG-500. And in order to get 100% completion in the game you have to get gold on all the lessons (or at least I presume so). Although these don't sound that great, they are worth doing anyway and are a lot of fun, apart from the last lesson. ;) Q. What are the differences between Bronze, Silver and Gold? A. Bronze = 70-89% Silver = 80-99% Gold = 100% Getting all the lessons in one type of award will unlock the bike outside the school. Q. One (or more) bikes aren't located outside the school. Why? A. For some reason, only one or two bikes appear outside the school from time to time. They will located to the East of the door and lined up. Try leaving the area and coming back or doing a mission or something; I remember when I got all gold's and only the Freeway appeared, so I did some missions, came back and all the bikes were there. Q. Any general tips to help me? A. If you are really struggling then try riding the bike more to increase your skills (although on the whole this shouldn't do that much difference). Try watching the opening video to get an idea of what to do in the lesson, and also remember that stopping at any time = finishing the lesson. Q. My Final Position is always a bit off. Where have you got to stop? A. You have to stop in-between the second row of cones in the box. Here is an ASCII diagram to show this further - X X X X B X X = Cone B = Bike Position X X Of course the bike is longer than a cone, so try and get the center of the bike aligned with the second row of cones. Q. What do the Results show? A. There are three different criteria that make up your overall score. Note that time DOES NOT affect your Overall Score, so if you need the extra second or two to line up properly, then use it! Here is a quick breakdown of the results. FINAL HEADING = Where your bike is facing. Straight ahead (aligned with the cone in front) will get you full marks. FINAL POSITION = Where you bike is positioned when it stops. Stopping in- between the second row of cones should get you full marks - see the above FAQ to see where I mean. PENALITY DAMAGE = You get deducted points if you hit a cone (minus 20% per cone). OVERALL SCORE = This is your Final Heading and Position added together, divided by two and then the Penalty Damage taken away. Q. Are there any other schools in the game? A. Yes, as well as the bike school there is a Driving, Flying and Boat school. The Driving school is located in San Fierro, the Flying school is in the Desert (you will get to do this through missions) and the Boat school is located in the town of Bayside, a town north of San Fierro. ---------- 3. Lessons ---------- There are a total of six lessons, which all cover additional bike skills that may help you in the game. For example doing wheelies and stoppies aren't very beneficial, but learning to stop after a jump or performing a 180 degree turn are. In the future I may add videos of each lesson showing how to get 100% on each one. The 360 ------- Task - Perform a burnout donut that goes round in a complete circle (360 degrees). You can do this by holding the X and Square buttons and pushing the left analog stick left or right. Time - 15 Seconds. Tips - This is very easy; just press X and Square together along with a direction and hold these until you do a full circle. When you have done a full circle (check the skid marks) let go of all the buttons just after a full circle to get 100%. The 180 ------- Task - Drive onward to the set of cones ahead, skid around the middle line of cones and drive back to the starting cones. Use R1 to skid round the middle line of cones (R1 = Handbrake). Time - 10 Seconds. Tips - Drive onward at full speed until you reach the block, and press R1 and a hard right when you are in-between the 1st and 2nd row of cones. Now quickly accelerate off (before you stop completely) and head back to the starting block. Stop directly inline with the second row of cones to get full marks. Use the normal brake (square) just before the first cones, which should land you in the right position. Getting bronze or silver here is quite easy, but gold will take several attempts to get a decent finish with. And remember not to touch any cones. The Wheelie ----------- Task - Perform a wheelie through the coned section and stop at the end. To perform a wheelie, pull back on the left analog stick. Time - 8 Seconds. Tips - This one is easier that it looks. Drive onward and about a second or so until you reach the coned section, pull back slightly (you don't need to do it too much, just so the front wheel is just off the ground) and release the X button to glide through the coned section. You can put the front wheel down after the section and just stop it at the end section (you probably don't need to accelerate after the coned section either). Remember to stop in between the 2nd row of cones for full marks. Jump & Stop ----------- Task - Jump the ramp then stop in the end section. Time - 8 Seconds. Tips - Go up the ramp at full speed and while in mid air, push forward a little to get a clean landing. Now just park the bike in-between the second row of cones for full marks (starting braking just as you enter the end section). You shouldn't need to move left or right unless you jolted slightly on the landing. Nothing to hard. The Stoppie ----------- Task - Perform a stoppie through the coned section and stop at the end. To perform a stoppie, push forward on the left analog stick and press the square button. Time - 8 Seconds. Tips - Quite tricky; go onward and at the gear change (listen out for it!) push forward and tip Square (release X as well) and just glide through. You may wobble and spin out a little toward the end, so if you do quickly re-adjust and park inbetween the second row of cones as usual at the end. Remember to land after the coned section and accelerate to the end section. Jump & Stoppie -------------- Task - Jump the ramp, land in a stoppie and stop at the end. Time - 8 Seconds. Tips - This one is VERY tough to achieve Gold in. Drive up the ramp at full speed and whilst in the air, release X (there shouldn't been any need to accelerate from this point onward) and when you begin falling, push forward on the left analog stick to land in a stoppie. Keep pushing forward and you will glide to the end section and when you reach the first cones, pull back to stop. This should get a bronze / silver no problem, but you'll need to try and try again loads to get gold. When putting your back wheel down you will mostly probably move left or right as you do so, putting your final heading mark down a little, so try and pull back as straight as you can and to adjust quickly if you see your self moving left or right. Good luck! ------------------ 4. Version History ------------------ Version 1.0 - 06/11/04 First version of the FAQ; fully complete. ------------------------------------------- 5.
