There is a monument at the entrance where Virgil and Daisy Hatton are buried. The inscription says: The valley as seen from this site was inhabited and cleared by Indians before the coming of the white man. In this area Samuel Hatton, Sr. was awarded by the State of Virginia one hundred acres for service in the Revolutionary War and Indian Wars. He was present at the surrender of Cornwallis. He was born in London, England 1728 (actually, 24 Oct 1749) died 1839 - and is buried nearby. This land is part of the original grant. His son, Elijah Hatton, who served in the War of 1812 was born 1838 and died 1871. Samuel K. Hatton, son of Elijah was born 1838 - died North Dakota in 1904. Daniel Hatton, son of Samuel K. was born 1862, died 1923 and was the father of Virgil Hatton. This land continuously owned by descendants of Samuel Hatton, Sr. Erected by Virgil Hatton in 1955
Samuel�s grave is over in the middle of the cemetery with a flagpole and American flag. The old tombstone is there and a new one in front of it placed there by Virgil and other descendants. Samuel, Jr. is buried nearby with a few other Hatton�s. |
