THE  PLAYERS
TREVOR SAMUELS
Trevor is one of the main characters in the novel.   He's an  insurance investigator
with  fifteen  years of experience.   He resides in  a small town on the St. Lawrence
River, which  separates  Canada from Upstate New York.   He resides with his dog,
Casey, who is also a character in the  novel.   Trevor is  a  little  unorthodox  in  his
methods,  which has rendered him great success as he boasts a 95% case-closure rate.  Will this case be his career maker or breaker?
JESSE LIPTON
Jesse is also a main character in the novel.  He's a fifteen-year-old Goth boy who's  heavily involved in  the  trafficking of contraband cigarettes.  He resides  with  his parents  in  an  old  farm  house  in  the country.  They lose their house in the third
arson and Trevor is called in to investigate.  Trevor doesn't know what to make of Jesse given his  make-up  covered  face,  piercings,  odd  wardrobe  choices  and colorful language. Can Trevor look beyond the exterior of this boy who is trying to find   himself   in   this  world?   Jesse's  parents,  Peter  and  Marsha,  also  play  a
significant role in this novel.
TRACY EDWARDS
Tracy is the claim adjuster assigned to the Lipton fire by their insurance company.   She's an attractive woman and is used to the stares she receives from most guys.  She works closely with Trevor to try and determine  the  cause  of  the  fire.  Does she have a more significant  role in the novel?  Does she become the role model Jesse needs to straighten out his young, wayward life?
AL SMITH
Al  loses  his  house  in  the  second  arson.   He's  a  millionaire  with  an  arrogant  personality.  His wife, Betty, and their two children,  fourteen-year-old Thomas and sixteen-year-old Jessica also have roles in the book.  Did Al have something to do with the arsons?  Did Betty or their two children?
MIKE ROGERS
Mike  is   the Police chief of Malone, the City in which all three fires occurred.  He  also  works with Trevor in the investigation.   Mike is a bit  of  a  redneck  with  an unusual accent and way of pronouncing some words.  He's usually competent but
is he competent enough for this case?
CASEY
Casey is nine-year-old Collie/Shepherd who resides with Trevor.  He is  usually  perturbed  with his master as he's always working on a case rather than giving him the attention he craves.  Casey plays a significant role in the book, usually that of comic relief.
This novel contains twenty-one unique characters, some  of which occupy many paragraphs while others...not so much.  The characters noted above are  merely
a  sample  of  the  diverse  group  of  people  upon  which  this mystery is based.
