| After peak charging the 8 cell 600mah battery, and installing Dean's Ultra Plugs, it was all set for the run. The battery obviously wouldn't fit with the regular battery hold down, so I made a custom one(mask tape). | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| First, I ran with my regular 3000mah battery, to check if everything was ok. At first, my car did the usual wheelie, but after a few minutes, it seemed that it was losing power. I thought it was kind of odd that my battery would drain that quick, but I thought it could have been because I didn't charge it all the way up. After, I checked the temperature on the three major parts(battery, ESC, and motor). The battery and ESC weren't even slighty warm, but the motor was... | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| So, I nervously strapped on and connected the 8 cell pack to my rustler, and took it back outside. I turned it on... everything was fine. I gave it a little gas...IT MOVED!!! But, when I gave it full throttle... it CRAWLED!!! How dissapointing!!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| My first speculation was that the battery, which was made of AA cells, could not put out enough current to satisfy the motor. I still have not ruled that out, but I think that's not the problem. My thoughts went back to my run with my 3000 battery. Then it hit me, it was my aging 16 turn motor!!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| I took out the brushes, and found tons of dust and carbon build up. I looked through endbell at the comm, which looked really dirty. So far, all clues point towards the motor... | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Conclusion | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Well I won't know if it was the motor until I try again with another motor. Unfortunatly, my 11 turn Speedworks retro motor needs the comm cut and some brush work, and my new Trinity Paradox motor needs the pinion gear glued. Speedy RC 2003's Speed Gems Pro Titanite just got its comm cut, and needs the brushes broken in. So, speed runs will have to wait till next time, but for now, there is still my Micro RS4... | ||||||||||||||||||||||
