Using a bivy sack instead of a tent allowed me to camp right off the side of the road in the bushes as seen here.  It's usually pretty lonely camping by yourself, but this night a group of hungry raccoons visited me.

Luckily, I ran into these guys from California and rode with them until I got sick.  From left to right: Ed, a surprisingly strong, but incredibly irritable retired military type; Fu-Ping, an easy going and successful software designer from Taiwan; and Andrew, a very cool guy who had traveled all over the world by bike.  I later found out that Andrew was the only one of the group that made it to the Mexican border.
This was the third major snowed in pass in Montana.  It took 3 hours to travel 2 miles through the snow.  The mountainside was steep so it was  difficult to keep my trailer from wanting to go downhill.  I fell 30 feet down the mountainside along with my bike. Luckily it was in the snow and not over rocks.
