Introduction on cooking

Cookery is not only fun and creative,it is also a useful skill to learn.Once you have mastered the basics you will have to confidence to tackle more difficult recipes an prehaps even invent a few of your own. However as cooking involes handling food and potential hazards such as sharp knives and boiling warter ,you do need to bear in mind a few simple rules Cooking like many things is a skill that will improve with pratice.You will get to know which flavours complement each other and be able to experiment with spices and herbs - although you should stick to the recipe at first.




Do's and Don'ts
Firstly wash your hands.
Tie back long hair.
Cut on a chopping board.Not on a worktop.
Wear an apron.
Pre-heat the oven to get the right temputure.
Stir flour and icing sugar before using.
Follow the recipe and weigh/measure ingredents accuretly-don't guess.
Try and keep your area of space clean as possible.Also clear up as you go.
Don't allow pets while your cooking in the kichen.
Don't have saucepan handles overhanging the cooker top
Always use a thick cloth while handling hot pans.


A choice of Dressings
French : Put one part wine vinger, 3 parts olive oil, salt and pepper in a screw-top jar.
Shake well to mix.

Yoghurt : Mix 6 parts lemon juice, 1 crushed garlic clove, salt and pepper. beat well to mix.
Blue cheese: Mix crumbled blue cheese (to taste) with mayonnaise and seasoning. beat to mix thoughly
Thousand island : A very strange choice of dressing but here it is add 1 part of tomato puree to 8 parts of mayonnaise. Mix in well thoughly then mix at the same time a few choped capers, and salt and pepper. a few drops of chilli saucewill spice it up.
